LONG POST: REASON WHY WE ARE DOING THIS!READ IT ALL💚💚
Miss Alexis is a 15 year old Blind Sophomore student at the ALL sighted students Elgin High School in Elgin, Oregon. She has went to the Elgin Schools since 2010. We found out that our precious daughter (youngest of 4 kids) was blind at her 2 month well child check. By the time she was 5 months old we knew exactly what caused her blindness by running so many tests, scans and gene testing (4.5 hours away from home). Alexis has LCA:Lebers Congenital Amaurosis. Which means she has 2 non working genes for the retina, leaving her with only 'shadow' vision. Since she could speak and walk she has LOVED music. When she was 3 years old she began learning to read and write in braille. We got her a little play piano and she would jam out on the thing. When she got a little older she was given a full size keyboard piano with lights and many other features. She went to town with it, she would listen to songs and begin pounding away on the keys until she got the song down (partial or whole). In school she started playing the trumpet and she enjoys it so much. On top of her core classes Alexis is in both Band and Choir at school. Her love for music goes deep. Her favorite singer is Luke Combs. She is so obsessed with his songs. She said he's an amazing singer and his songs are full of love. She has been talking about going to one of his concerts (she asked me if we could go to New York for God sake 🤣) I started researching his tours and found out he will be in Boise Idaho on May 20, 2023! I want nothing more than to get her to that concert and I am trying like hell to get her a MEET AND GREET to make her dream come true!!! Wouldn't making Alexis' dream come true just be the most heart warming thing to watch?!
This little girl has conquered so much in life so far. Living in our tiny town as the ONLY blind person, having to learn in a sighted school; where no one reads or writes in braille, continuously achieving a 4.0 GPA, dealing with bullies 😭 and yet continues to have a huge heart, do for others, and keep her head high to achieve what she wants in life. She is a true inspiration to all around her. I would be over the moon if we could reach Mr. Luke Combs himself to share her story and make her dream come true!! Please help us! SHE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT ANY OF THIS
