Master ba**er Jim McGinity of Florida Avian Conservation will be giving a banding demonstration in Dunedin Hammock Park this Sunday, October 18th. Stop by at any point from 9am to noon to see the banding of migratory birds. If you've never seen this done before, stop by - it's fascinating. Thanks to Alex Madrid for the poster.

Tonight (October 11) and the next two night we have high migration alerts. Millions of birds will be flying over New Port Richey and our area on their way south for the winter. Please turn off outdoor lighting to help protect them. And if we are lucky we may find some of them stopping in our area as they prepare to cross the Gulf. Join birders around the nation and the world this Saturday by looking for birds. Pick your favorite place and see how many species you can find. To help count with the international effort, log what you find on eBird. October Big Day is also known as World Migratory Bird Day. If you don't have much time, 15 minutes in your own backyard will do!

Join us this Saturday, October 3rd, for our monthly walk in Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park. Migration is well underway and we'll be hoping to see some of the birds passing through our area as we explore. Meet in the Education Center parking lot for an 8am start.

Please note that there will also be a talk from a group of our members at 11am on Colombia and Costa Rica: Images and Reflections. We'll be sharing some of the lovely photography, experiences and observations on the birding and conservation practices in the two countries to which we sent groups this spring. The talk will be in the Starkey Environmental Education Center at 11am, but doors open with tasty treats available for a small donation at 10:30am. Both events are free and all are very welcome.

Eleven of us met at Fred Howard Park on Friday morning for our first field trip of the season. It was refreshingly cool and ideal temperatures. We found 45 species. Thanks to Patricia Goldberg and Anthony Marella for sharing their photos and to Don Fraser for bringing his scope along and leading our walk in the wooded upland habitat.

Join us this Saturday, September 5th, for our monthly bird walk in Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park. We'll meet up in the Education Center parking lot for a 7:30 am start. Migrants are now moving south through our area and we'll be hoping to catch some on our walk. Do bring water, bug spray, sunscreen and wear closed toed shoes. Free and all are welcome!

Our new webpage is now active! You can find us, as always, at www.pascoaudubon.com. Huge thanks to Kimberly Snaric, for her vision and generosity in taking on this project, and to Karl Enero for his hard work and expertise in making it a reality. Thanks also to our new webmaster, Phil Duncan, for taking it over!. And it would be remiss not to send out our sincere thanks also to Mike Kell, our outgoing webmaster, for his effort and support on our former site over many years. We're so lucky to have a great team. We hope you enjoy the new site.

Join us this Saturday morning (August 1st) for our monthly birding walk in Jay B. Starkey WIlderness Park. Meet up in the Education Center parking lot for a 7:30am start. We'll be hoping to see some early migrants this morning. Bring your binoculars and/or camera, bug spray, water and it's a good idea to wear closed-toed shoes. Free (as always) and all are very welcome!
