"This program from RTN (June 21, 2026) is dedicated to Father's Day and commemorates the veterans of World War II. Host Marina Levenson speaks with Anna Malkina, a dedicated advocate who has spent over 30 years supporting the veteran community in the United States, and guest Alexey Yurenev, a documentary photographer and professor currently joining from Paris.

Alexey and Anna met in an elevator, a chance encounter that evolved into an eight-year partnership focused on documenting the lives and stories of aging veterans. In this interview, Alexey introduced the OSOAVIAKhIM Foundation, a group of young American historical reenactors who are passionate about the material history of the Soviet Red Army. Their role in the project is deeply impactful: they study military uniforms, training, and history to create highly accurate reconstructions.

By wearing these authentic uniforms and visiting veterans, they create a bridge for communication, often prompting veterans to share stories they had never told before.

They have become an integral part of Anna and Alexey's team, attending events, learning the Russian language, and singing war-era songs alongside the veterans.'"

Written by Hannah Anne of the 9th Soviet Guards, give this guide a read! For many years, Soviet women reenactors have not had their own dedicated guide. Many women in the past had to rely only on images and word of mouth from senior female members. No longer shall female impressions be left in the dark as a hardly-talked-about topic. As always, feel free to reach out for questions you may have. We in the OSOAVIAKhIM Foundation encourage the spirit of female reenactors researching and building each other up!

Living History at the Indiana Military Museum's Salute to Veterans of WWII

Nestled in one of Indiana's most historic cities, the Indiana Military Museum is one of the premier military museums in the United States. Founded in 1984 by Judge Jim R. Osborne, whose lifelong passion for preserving military history began as a young collector, the museum has grown from a small private collection into a nationally recognized institution. In 2013, the museum opened its doors in Vincennes, allowing visitors to experience an even larger collection of artifacts spanning from the American Revolution to present-day conflicts. As a nonprofit organization, its mission is to preserve the stories, equipment, and sacrifices of the men and women who served while educating future generations about our military heritage.

The museum is especially well known for its impressive collection of historic military vehicles and aircraft. Visitors can see iconic World War II armor such as the M4A3E8 "Easy Eight" Sherman, the rare Japanese Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank, the iconic Soviet T-34/85, and the M1917 light tank, alongside halftracks, jeeps, amphibious vehicles, artillery pieces, and other military transports. The aircraft collection is equally remarkable, featuring a C-47 Skytrain, C-45 Expeditor, A-26 Invader, Huey helicopter, MiG-17, MiG-21, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and many other aircraft representing decades of military aviation history. Many of the museum's vehicles are maintained in operating condition, offering visitors the rare opportunity to see these historic machines come to life!

During the Salute to WWII Veterans, the museum grounds transform into an immersive World War II encampment as reenactors from across the country portray the soldiers, show equipment, and live the daily life of the era.

Event Highlights:
• Two large public battle reenactments each day featuring armored vehicles, military trucks, artillery, and authentic battlefield demonstrations.
• Living history camps where visitors can meet reenactors portraying Allied and Axis forces, explore period equipment, and learn about the experiences of those who served during World War II.

🎬 Volunteer WWII Reenactors Needed – Film Production (August 7–9, 2026)

We’re looking for German and Soviet WWII reenactors to help bring a unique independent film project to life during the weekend of August 7–9, 2026 in Averill Park, New York.

Following our meeting with the producer and director, we’re seeking volunteers to portray characters in approximately five short stories adapted from Yurenev’s Seeing Against Seeing. The film is an anthology in the spirit of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, but presented through a distinctly Soviet lens with powerful anti-war themes.

Most filming will take place on Saturday, August 8, with additional scenes throughout the weekend.

What we’re looking for:
• Soviet reenactors in M43 uniforms (please also bring your M35/M42 setup if you have one).
• German reenactors in late-1943 uniforms (bring an M42 setup if available).
• Volunteers willing to participate in a trench-digging scene—please bring shovels if you have them.
• A few volunteers with WWI Russian equipment for a brief opening scene involving a prop.
• If any of our younger German reenactors have a wife or girlfriend interested in portraying a German civilian woman, we’d love to hear from you.
