Flora on the 301 Trail in Eldorado - David Rasch

There is an unusual and isolated occurrence of Club Cholla, Grunsonia clavata, in the Eldorado Community Preserve. David Rasch, a member of the Conservation Committee, saw this central New Mexico native along T301. The low mat-forming cactus with very broad, daggerlike spines and yellow flowers is much more common on the west side of Santa Fe. This plant is covered with many dried fruits from last year’s blooms.

LOST DOG!
"Shaddock" was last seen yesterday, 2/14, around 2:30 PM, on Caliente Road. He is a large black poodle with a white muzzle and a blue collar. If you see Shaddock, please call 505 670-9313.

The ECIA Conservation Committee would like to thank you for your excellent article, Doggie Etiquette – Hitting the Trails with Your Dog, in the January 2024 issue of Greet Eldorado. Our committee has under its purview the hiking trails of the Eldorado Greenbelts and Community Preserve, where many residents enjoy these natural areas both with and without their dogs. Our Preserve Policy states that “Pets must be on leash or under voice control. Dog owners are strongly encouraged to keep their dogs leashed at all times in the Preserve.” We are particularly concerned about protecting the wildlife from unnecessary disturbance. However, we sometimes hear from Eldorado residents hiking these trails regarding unfortunate dog-related incidents which negatively impacted their experience, both from those who hike with dogs (e.g., leashed vs. unleashed) and those who don’t (e.g., rushed or barked at). Through your balanced tone and evident expertise about responsible and respectful management of dogs while hiking, your article provides perspective from both sides, articulates well the potential interactions and their simple and practical solutions, and eliminates any sense of antagonism. We greatly appreciate your efforts and hope you continue sharing your meaningful guidance with the Eldorado community.

LOST DOG!

"Milly" was last seen crossing Ave. de Compadres around 10:30 AM
Her owners live off of Balsa Road
Milly is a young Cattle Dog and is about 45lbs
She is brown with white feet and may be wearing a blue collar

If you see Milly, or are able to get her to come to you, please call 719-641-8603 or the ECIA office 505-466-4248.

Milly's owners are elderly and need their neighbor's assistance. Please help us reunite Milly with her owners.

Lost Dog!
Found on Moya Loop around 9:45 AM. He is a young, male Shepherd and is currently in the ECIA Dog Park. If he is not found by his owner by 1 PM, Animal Control will be contacted.
Please help us find his owner!
