We are not alone. But WAA Day goes on in Elburn.
WEATHER STATEMENT FOR SATURDAY’S WREATH DAY
When the weather forecast for Saturday came out, I reached out to the other parties involved in the event, including the emergency services personnel we coordinate with. As in the past when we have had inclement weather, the event will go on as scheduled. I will be sending out a reminder email to everyone to dress in layers to keep warm. At the current forecast weather temperatures, frostbite to EXPOSED SKIN can happen in 30 minutes, per the US National Weather Service graph.
While some other area locations may have cancelled their event, we are currently scheduled to go on AS PLANNED. In comparison to a smaller location who may have less than 100 wreaths to place which can easily be held for more favorable weather conditions, we have just shy of 24,000 wreaths to place and a lot more moving parts surrounding our event. We continue to observe the weather for any dangerous turn.
I will be stopping by the cemetery tomorrow to discuss any accommodations we might be able to make given the forecast. We hope to carry out the event in an expedient but respectful manner. As always, the free luncheon for volunteers at Stone City VFW makes an excellent spot to warm back up when one decides to call it a day, whenever that may be. Saturday’s hot lunch will be provided by Farm2Veteran.
Whether you choose to come out on Saturday or not is a personal decision oWreaths Across Americaof right now, we are carrying on as planned. Any change will be posted here and shared out via the Wreaths Across America communications dashboard.
