Looking for a job can be intimidating at ANY age! 😬

Now imagine being 14 or 15, having little or no work experience & trying to figure out where to even begin!

Where can I work? Will anyone hire me? Do I need a resume? What’s a work permit? How do I know what I’m supposed to do?

For many younger teens, finding that very first job can feel overwhelming. And for parents trying to help them navigate the process, it can be just as confusing!

That’s exactly why we created "15 & Ready to Work", part of Teen Job Help’s FREE Summer Job Boot Camp!

Designed specifically for younger job seekers, this class helps take some of the mystery out of entering the workforce.

Here’s just some of what we’ll cover:

🔹 Where younger teens can realistically find employment opportunities

🔹 How age restrictions, work permits & employment laws affect their options

🔹 Alternative ways to gain valuable experience when traditional jobs aren’t yet available

🔹 What to expect when entering the workplace, including employer expectations & responsibilities

🔹 Workplace safety, recognizing uncomfortable situations & understanding when & how to speak up

🔹 Practical tips to help teens feel more prepared & confident as they begin their job search

And here’s something we especially want teens to understand: Being young or inexperienced doesn’t mean you don’t deserve respect in the workplace!

While this class focuses on 15-year-olds, we highly encourage 14-year-olds to attend too!

Whether you’re a teen ready to earn your first paycheck or a parent helping your teen take those first steps toward employment, we’re here to help!

📍 In-person & Zoom classes available!

☀️ GET READY. GET HIRED. GET TO WORK.

Summer may feel a long way off, but the best time to prepare for a summer job is before everyone starts looking for one.

TJH's Summer Job Boot Camp (SJBC) is coming soon! We’ll be helping teens build the real-world skills they need to:

📍 figure out what kind of job is right for them
📝 create a resume that gets noticed
🔎 find and apply for opportunities
💬 prepare for interviews
🤝 build the soft skills employers are looking for
💼 learn what to expect once they’re actually on the job
💵 understand some of the practical side of working & earning money

SJBC will include in-person classes for teens in the communities we serve, along with Zoom classes for teens outside our local area.

We’re not quite ready to share all the details yet…but we’re getting close. 👀

GET READY. GET HIRED. GET TO WORK.

Because the best time to look for a summer job isn’t when summer is already here.

It’s when you’re ready.

🗳️ **Today is National Voter Registration Day!**

For young people preparing to vote for the first time, registering is an important first step. But being **prepared & informed** matters too.

Voting isn't just about showing up on Election Day. It's about understanding what's on your ballot, learning about the candidates & issues, knowing where to find reliable information & making your own informed choices.

And here's something teens may not realize: **you may be able to register to vote BEFORE you turn 18** The rules vary by state & some states allow teens to pre-register as early as age 16.

To help new & future voters get started, Teen Job Help created a **Young Voter Guide** that covers:

🇺🇸 Getting registered
🗳️ Preparing for Election Day
🔎 Researching candidates & ballot issues
✅ Finding reliable, nonpartisan information
📍 Voter registration rules for teens in all 50 states + Washington, D.C.

Whether you're voting for the first time soon or you're still a couple of years away, now is a great time to start learning how it all works!

Being an informed voter doesn't mean knowing everything about politics. It means taking the time to learn, asking questions, checking reliable information & making your own choices.

🌟Fun fact: Labor Day has been a federal holiday for more than 130 years-officially becoming one in 1894!

But Labor Day is about more than a 3 day weekend. It’s a day to recognize America’s workers, including the newest generation entering the workforce: TEENS! 💪

Over the years, workplace laws have helped create important protections for young workers, including rules around the types of jobs teens can do & when they can work.

So to every teen who spent this summer scooping ice cream, stocking shelves, lifeguarding, babysitting, working a register, mowing lawns, helping customers, or earning that very first paycheck…

Labor Day is for you, too! 🎉

Every first job is the beginning of something. 🧡💙

Happy Labor Day from Teen Job Help!
