Another successful with the Kane County Sheriff's Office
is in the books! 💙🧡

As I was reflecting on the event today, 3 thoughts kept coming back to me…

✨ 1. Fortune tellers aren’t just for us “older” folks! 😄 I honestly thought only my generation would know what a paper fortune teller was. I couldn’t have been more wrong! So many kids (ages 5–15) immediately recognized them & were absolutely delighted to receive the special Teen Job Help version we created. Watching their excitement made all the time spent designing, printing, cutting & folding them completely worth it!

🚜 2. Farm work absolutely counts as a real job. There were lots of preteens at the event & I asked every one of them if they had a summer job. Because we live in such a strong farming community, many proudly answered, “I work on our family farm.”

I loved that they already viewed their work as a rightly legitimate job! I reminded them that when it’s time to write their first resume, all of that farm experience deserves a place on it. Responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving & work ethic don’t only happen in an office, they grow in fields, too.

❤️ 3. The world is full of amazingly good people. Sometimes the news & social media can make it easy to forget that. But events like are a wonderful reminder that there are incredible people everywhere! Educators, first responders, nonprofit leaders, volunteers, parents & neighbors, all giving their time to make our communities stronger. Those are exactly the kinds of people we want to surround ourselves with.

Already looking forward to next year!

💵 Minimum wage changes are taking effect in many states beginning today July 1st!!

If you have a teen who is working this summer (or throughout the year), this is a great opportunity to encourage them to check the minimum wage in your state & review their next paycheck.

Many employers update wages automatically, but mistakes can happen. Help your teen build important workplace skills by encouraging them to:
✅ Know their state’s current minimum wage.
✅ Review their pay stub.
✅ Ask respectful questions if something doesn’t seem right.

Understanding a paycheck & learning how to professionally advocate for yourself are valuable life skills that will benefit teens long after their first job.

Take a look at our graphic to see if your state is listed And feel free to share it with other parents & families!

As always, DM us with any questions! 😊

❤️ Do You Do Your Work With Love? ❤️

Whether you’re making a burger, stocking a shelf, answering a phone, bagging groceries, or managing a team, there’s a difference between simply doing a job & doing it with care. 😲

Think about the businesses you love to visit. Chances are it isn’t just because of the product. It’s because someone took pride in what they were doing. 🤗

✔️The meal was made correctly
✔️The order was packed carefully
✔️The employee smiled
✔️The customer felt valued

At Teen Job Help, we encourage teens to remember that every task matters. The way you do the small things often becomes the way you do the big things.

When you put a little love & care into your work, people notice.🤩

And the best part?

A little love has a funny way of coming back to you.

❤️ Give some
❤️ Receive some
❤️ Make someone’s day a little better

One workplace skill that doesn’t get talked about enough for teens? 🧐

🌟 Understanding timelines & communicating them clearly. 🌟

This summer, many teens are entering jobs for the very first time. And one of the biggest causes of stress at work is simple miscommunication.

A manager may assign a task, thinking it will be completed today…while the teen thinks it’s something to work on “eventually.”

Teens should be asking questions like:

➡️ “When would you like this done?”
➡️ “What should I prioritize first?”

As well as taking the initiative to step up & own the timeline by saying things like:

➡️ “I can have this completed by tomorrow afternoon.”
➡️ "I'll give you an update before the end of my shift."

These small conversations help build trust with employers & reduce confusion for everyone involved.

Good communication & accountability are workplace superpowers! And employers absolutely notice teens who communicate clearly. 💙

One of our FAVORITE texts to receive. ❤️

Today, one of our FIFTEEN year olds texted … “I got the job!!”

And honestly, that excitement never gets old.

Then shortly after, we also received a message from the employer after thanking him for giving this teen an opportunity. His response? He said he “knows she will be good cause we referred her”!!

That meant more than we can even explain.

Because the truth is, finding jobs for 15-year-olds has become REALLY difficult. Many employers have stepped away from hiring younger teens due to work permit requirements, scheduling limitations, transportation concerns, maturity concerns & more.

But THIS is exactly why Teen Job Help started.

Years ago, I watched firsthand how hard it was for younger teens to even get an opportunity. Not because they weren’t capable… but because they simply needed someone willing to guide them, prepare them & believe in them.

So seeing the excitement from this teen AND the trust from an employer in the very same day was such a meaningful reminder of why we do what we do.

It’s validation not just for me personally, but for the work Teen Job Help is doing every single day to help teens become prepared, professional & ready for the workplace.

And we’re just getting started.

This fall, Teen Job Help will be launching a new FREE training workshop focused specifically on helping 15-year-olds become more job-ready & employer-ready before they even start applying. More details coming soon!

To every younger teen out there: don’t give up! The right opportunity IS out there!💙

Stay Well. Be Kind.

TJH is proud to stand alongside the Kane County Health Department in supporting the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

This resource is incredibly important, especially for teens who may be struggling & don’t know where to turn. Help is available & no one has to face those moments alone.

We’ve picked up a free 988 yard sign from KCHD & instead of keeping it in one place, we’re taking it on the road! You’ll start seeing it with us out in the community as a small but visible reminder that support is always within reach.

Stay tuned to see where it shows up first!

Stay Well. Be Kind.
