Battle of Vann’s Creek Ceremony December 2, 2023
The Samuel Elbert Chapter GASSAR
invites the GASSAR, NSDAR, and general public to attend a
Revolutionary Ceremony in honor the Battle of Vann’s Creek on
Saturday December 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Walter McNealy
Pavilion, The address for Richard Russell State Park is 2650 Russell
State Park Dr., Elberton, Ga 30635. This will be the 14th Annual
Ceremony.
Our Program will be by our Compatriot Clay Ouzts on his recent
published book. Samuel Elbert and the Age of Revolution in Georgia. If
you do not have a copy of this interesting book it would be a great time
to purchase it and have the author to sign it.
Directions from the entrance of Richard Russell State Park We will
have SAR signs at the entrance and the 2 turns.
Directions to the Walter McNealy Pavilion from the main entrance are
go 1.8 miles and bear left on Olympic Rowing Road then go 2/10 mile
and turn right following the road to the Pavilion GPS coordinates are
34.160762 / -82.740858. We will have SAR signs at the entrance and
each turn.

Register by November 30, 2023 to be printed in the program. RSVP
your attendance to be recognized during the ceremony or present a
wreath.

Patriot Grave Ceremony. With joint effort from the S.A.R. and D.A.R. of the American Revolution and family and land owners . There will be a Grave Marking and Honoring of Patriot Jacob Higginbotham . Wreath presentation , Rev . Dan Bailey a Desendant will present a history of Captain Jacob Higginbotham . After the ceremony the State Color Guard in Authentic era Clothing will give a 21 gun Salute with black powder Flintlock Rifle . Family , Friends , Genealogist , Historians , or just Curious . All are welcomed . There are a lot of Captain Jacob Higginbothams relative's that live in surrounding countries . We have so much history and Patriots , and their Blood lines living in our area . Come join us Celebrate and Honor and keep this History alive . Remember if not for them and their Sacrifice , we would not have the Freedom and Liberty that we enjoy today .
