Helping Overcome Poverty in Elbert County

Helping Overcome Poverty in Elbert County An interdenominational ministry working with churches & social agencies to serve Elbert County, GA

HOPE (Helping Overcome Poverty in Elbert County) envisions a collaboration of Elbert Country churches and social agencies through which the cycle of poverty within our community is broken, and everyone has the tools to become self-sufficient. Our mission is to connect people in need with churches and social agencies that will provide the appropriate help, support, and education that will not only

meet the present need but will enable them to address the root causes of their personal, social, and economic challenges.

The annual Back to School backpack event was held on Saturday, July 20th at the ROC gym. HOPE was one of many community organizations participating by filling each child’s backpack with personal hygiene items. We would like to thank Elbert County Extension for their generous donation of hygiene items and to Barbara Newman, Rev Richard Jarvis, PJo Phelps, Deb Dudley, Mary Adams and Steve Adams who manned our table and spread the word about our organization.

HOPE Ministries was one of many organizations represented at the Back to School event held Saturday at the Roc gym. Many children were given the opportunity to fill a backpack with school supplies and these backpacks were filled to overflowing! We were honored to be a part of this effort to prepare children for their school year. Thanks go out to Barbara Newman, Trish Peek, Mary Adams and Richard Jarvis for manning our table and informing folks about our services.

Hope Ministries had it’s 2nd Angel Painting fundraiser. I was privileged to teach Ann Drake Mann s lesson plan. What a wonderful experience sharing the spirit of giving through fellowship and creating. Ann was the woman that got Hope off the ground in Elbert County, and here we are 5 years later going strong in our mission to overcome poverty in Elbert County.
All these women were angels to donate to this ministry, and enjoy the creativity that’s a part of all of us through our Creator.
Thanks Barbara Newman, Pj Phelps, Trish Patricia Baker Hoeckel Peek and Mary Adams for all your help.
And aren’t their angels beautiful! ( Wrtten ny Deborah Martin Dudley, who taught the class to paint an angel.)

On Saturday Pilgrims Pride Corp held their annual Family Fun Day, catered by Compass Rose. Helping Compass with food preparation were three folks representing HOPE, with the promise of a donation to HOPE for their time spent. They were prepping food, boiling hot dogs and sausages, flipping burgers and grilling hot dogs and sausages (a few may have landed on the ground as we adjusted to the learning curve). It was very busy work but also a lot of fun and certainly a very different way to spend a Saturday. Thanks go out to Barbara Newman, Ruchard Peek and Trish Peek.
