Summer in campus ministry isn't an off-season. It's a different kind of season.
We asked campus ministers across the country how they're spending these months, and their answers tell a story: book clubs and beach days. Retreats and fishing trips. Cruises with friends and strategic planning for the fall. Reading voraciously for pleasure and for growth.

The thread running through it all? Rest isn't the opposite of ministry. It's how energy and excitement find a place to root before students return.

Pope Leo XIV's first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, is about artificial intelligence and the human person and it never mentions campus ministry. But it speaks directly to it.

Our students are being formed right now by algorithms, by loneliness, by questions no one has named for them yet. The Pope describes a pivotal choice facing humanity, and our students are living inside it whether they have words for it or not. Showing up for them is one of the ways the Church meets them there.

Jesus travels the streets, crosses the squares and visits our neighborhoods, dwelling in the settings of our daily lives. He is a God who is close to us, who walks with his people, the Lord of history. He is comfort to the weak, light for families, hope for the sick and peace for those who suffer. The Christ who processes through the streets in the monstrance is the same one who identifies with the poor, the downtrodden, those who are alone and forsaken"
