When a teen is scrolling through TikTok or playing a video game, their body might be still, but their brain is running a marathon. Their visual cortex is processing rapid-fire images. Their dopamine receptors are firing wildly. Their cortisol (stress hormone) is often elevated due to the comparison and FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) inherent in social media. If this sounds like your teen they may need the “Ranch Reset”. Click below to learn more.

At Journey Home, we use a powerful cognitive behavioral tool called the "Behavior Chain." It is the process of putting a mistake in slow motion to understand exactly how it happened, and how to stop it next time.

A Behavior Chain is an exercise where we ask the teen to dissect a specific situation into four distinct links: Thoughts, Feelings, Actions, and Consequences. By writing this out, the teen sees the mechanics of their own behavior. They realize that the action was not inevitable. It was the result of...

Higher Grounds Management was built to disrupt this outdated model. We stopped asking "How do we treat the patient?" and started asking "How do we change the life?" We also created our 501(c)(3) Journey Home, funded by proceeds from Higher Grounds Management, to provide these services to all families in need nationwide.

There is a frustrating cycle that many families know too well. It goes like this: The teen struggles. The parents hire a therapist. The teen sits on a couch for 50 minutes a week, talks (or refuses to talk), and then returns to the same environment that made them sick. Or, in more severe cases, the....

At Journey Home, we realized that to truly change a teen's trajectory, you cannot just treat the symptom. You have to treat the system. We built an interconnected ecosystem of services that surrounds the family with support from every angle.

When a family is in crisis, they often grab at individual life rafts. They might hire a tutor for the grades. Then they find a therapist for the anxiety. Then they install a blocking app for the phone. The problem is that these solutions rarely talk to each other. The tutor doesn't know the teen sta...

At Journey Home, we believe in an ecosystem. We have built a multi-modal approach that surrounds the teen with support from every angle. By integrating therapy, academics, physical fitness, and immersive retreats, we stop playing "whack-a-mole" with symptoms and start treating the whole human being.

You cannot talk a teen into believing they can do hard things. They have to actually do the hard things. When a teen struggles with a difficult math concept and finally masters it without a tutor giving them the answer, they gain confidence. When they navigate a social conflict without a parent intervening, they gain confidence. The struggle provides the evidence they need to believe in themselves.

We are seeing a generation struggling to launch, crippled by anxiety, and lacking the basic curiosity about the physical world that drives growth and maturity. The phone has become a pacifier, a shield, and a cage all at once. But there is a way out. It requires a hard reset. It requires a strategy that goes beyond simple time limits or nagging. It requires a fundamental shift in how your family operates.

Are kids really “offline” at school? New research suggests otherwise — teens are spending roughly an hour or more of their school day on their phones, mostly on social media and entertainment, not learning. Experts warn this could be affecting attention, engagement, and overall well-being, sparking conversations about healthier screen habits and school policies.

Adolescents spend an average of 70 minutes of their school days on their phones, new research finds. But parents can help suggest ways kids not use phones at school.
