Our mission is to empower economically disadvantaged individuals living with insulin resistance, pre-diabetes or diabetes by providing essential medical treatment, medications, educational programs on diabetes management, nutritional guidance and more.

✨ Meet Our Vice President: Clarissa Medrano ✨

We’re proud to introduce Clarissa Medrano, an Occupational Therapist and Program Director leading the Combat Aviation Brigade’s Holistic Health and Fitness program at Fort Bliss. Clarissa brings a wealth of experience in mental readiness, sleep hygiene, injury prevention, and sustainable lifestyle change—all with the goal of improving quality of life and building resilience.

Clarissa is deeply passionate about community health and believes that real, lasting wellness starts with education, support, and realistic habits. We’re honored to have her professional expertise supporting the Paso a Paso Diabetes Initiative and empowering individuals and families to take charge of their health. 💙

Fun fact: When she’s not supporting wellness programs, Clarissa enjoys running and staying active—living the healthy habits she encourages in others!

Meet one of the hearts behind our mission 💙

✨ Meet Anthony Castanares — founding board member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Paso a Paso Diabetes Initiative. Born and raised in El Paso, Anthony brings a powerful blend of analytical expertise and deep personal motivation to our nonprofit.

Anthony’s commitment to diabetes care is personal. Watching his mother struggle with diabetes and later thrive with the right education, support, and lifestyle guidance showed him what empowered, accessible care can truly accomplish. That experience fuels his dedication to building sustainable, community-centered solutions for diabetes prevention and management.

We’re grateful to have leaders like Anthony helping guide Paso a Paso as we work to make diabetes care accessible, personal, and empowering for our community—step by step, paso a paso.
