30,000 Lives Changed…A Milestone for Sun City Cats!

Our vision of improving the lives of community cats has evolved into a tangible reality. Sun City Cats has officially humanely TNR’ed over 30,000 cats!

What began as a commitment to protect the most vulnerable and often overlooked feline populations has reached a significant milestone. Through our dedication and passion, we have now spayed, neutered, and vaccinated over 30,000 cats, ensuring they lead healthier lives.

This achievement represents more than just a statistic, it signifies a massive reduction in future overpopulation and the prevention of countless animals being born into hardship.

Our progress would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, the expertise of our spay-neuter partners, and the continued generosity of our donors.

By reaching this milestone, we have successfully prevented a countless number of cats and kittens from ever entering the shelter system, breaking the cycle of overpopulation before it begins.

While we celebrate this success, our work is far from over. We are ready to begin the next chapter and set our sights on the next 30,000. We invite you to continue this journey with us.

Here’s to the next chapter of saving lives!

We NEED your help—right now.

Sun City Cats is in the middle of active Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts across El Paso, and we’re running low on the supplies that make this lifesaving work possible.

Our Amazon Wish List is filled with the essentials we use every single day—food, p*e pads, and trapping supplies. These aren’t “nice to have” items… they are what allow us to safely trap, care for, and return community cats.

Every item donated goes directly into the field and into the hands of volunteers working tirelessly to prevent suffering and reduce overpopulation.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a direct, immediate impact—this is it.

We are incredibly grateful for every single donation, no matter the size. You are truly part of this work with us. ❤️

LET THEM STAY WITH MOM

Sun City Cats is asking everyone in our community to stop pulling or rehoming kittens from their mothers. Even if you think you’ve found them a "good home," taking them too early is a mistake that hurts everyone involved.
The bond between a mother cat and her kittens is vital; separating them before 8 to 12 weeks can be devastating.

Here is why that time is so critical:

🔴 Health & Immunity
Kittens get essential antibodies from their mother's milk that simply cannot be replaced. Removing them too early leads to "failure to thrive," making them vulnerable to severe illness and death.

🔴 Behavioral Issues
Between weeks 4 and 8, kittens learn "how to be a cat." Mom teaches them boundaries and bite inhibition. Kittens taken too soon often grow up to be aggressive, anxious, or poorly adjusted.

🔴 The Mother’s Pain
When kittens are snatched away, the mother cat is left in physical agony. Her milk continues to produce, which can lead to mastitis—a painful and life-threatening infection. She also suffers immense emotional distress searching for her babies.

🔴 The "Street Cat" Cycle
The reason our streets have many cats is a human problem. When people take kittens but leave the mother behind unspayed, she can become pregnant again almost immediately. This creates a never-ending cycle of homelessness and suffering.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
The best thing you can do is keep the family together until the kittens are fully weaned. Once they are old enough, the goal is to ensure everyone—mom included—is spayed or neutered.

Do NOT take momma cats and kittens into the municipal shelter!

While municipal shelters do their best, they are often overwhelmed. The stress of a kennel can cause a mother to stop nursing, and exposure to common shelter viruses can be life-threatening. By keeping them out of the system, you are directly saving their lives.

Please, let them be. Let them grow. Let them stay with mom.

Sun City Cats will happily get you scheduled for TNR once the kittens are age-appropriate. Please email us at [email protected]

97 Lives, 6 Days: A Live Saving Week!

It’s been an incredibly busy week of hustle, heart, and helping our local feline friends. Over the last 6 days, our team has:

—-TNRed 88 Cats: That’s 88 kitties now sterilized, vaccinated, and living healthier lives in their colonies.

—-Treated 9 Cats: From minor injuries to specialized care, we ensured our most vulnerable friends got the medical attention they deserved.

A huge shoutout to our tireless volunteers, trappers, and the amazing veterinary teams who partner with us. We couldn't do it without the support of our caregivers and the El Paso community!

WE NEED YOU!
Our resources are stretched thin. We are looking for passionate volunteers—specifically in the Central/Lower Valley and East Side areas—to join our mission.

No experience is needed—just a heart for El Paso’s community cats!

Sun City Cats is UNSTOPPABLE! 52 cats TNRed

What an absolutely incredible, whirlwind couple of days! From trapping in the rain to education events, our hearts are so full. We are celebrating some massive wins for our community cats:

•52 CATS HUMANELY TRAPPED! We are celebrating 52 more cats humanely trapped and now officially TNRed. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, and the amazing veterinary staff, these community cats are heading back to their colonies healthier, sterilized, vaccinated, and ready for a better life. Talk about dedication!

•A SPECIAL RESCUE- SCC team member saved one very sweet, very pregnant mama. She is officially off the streets and snuggled up in a wonderful foster home where she can be in peace and comfort.

•HEALING HEARTS- Our amazing veterinarian treated 6 cats for medical needs this week! By providing this critical care in the field, we’re keeping these kitties healthy and preventing them from ever having to enter the municipal shelter.

•ROUND-THE-CLOCK
DEDICATION-While the night owls were out trapping, our clinic superstars were up early making sure everything ran like clockwork. Thank you for making it all look easy!

•SPREADING THE WORD-We’ve spent the last couple of days out in the community, getting new neighborhoods on board with the life-saving magic of Sun City Cats' TNR!

•KITTEN SHOWER JOY-We had a blast spreading our knowledge at the Kitten Shower hosted by El Paso Animal Services! We love working together to save our city’s tiniest residents.

A HUGE thank you to our phenomenal volunteers and partners. Whether you were trapping, transporting, holding , running the clinic, or educating, etc….. YOU made this happen!

Claws Against Cruelty: Stand Up for Our Cats!!!

At Sun City Cats, we believe every cat in our community deserves to live without fear. We are proud to stand with Animal Services to remind everyone that cruelty toward cats—whether it’s neglect, abandonment, or intentional harm—is never acceptable and is against the law.

Cats are our neighbors, and how we treat them reflects the heart of our city. If you see something, say something. Let’s work together to keep our feline friends safe, healthy, and respected.

Join the "Claws Against Cruelty" mission. Don't be a silent witness. Remember P.U.R.R.

March 153. Cats and Counting!

The Sun City Cats team has been non-stop for the last 9 days, and the numbers are in:
Last week: 83 cats trapped in just two days and 7 medically treated.

This week: 48 more TNR’d and 15 treated for medical needs.

Our small but mighty team is heading back out this Monday, followed by another clinic next weekend. To say we are "on the go" is an understatement—we are officially exhausted!

We are going to attempt to take a couple of days off to recharge.

Thank you all so much for your patience while we catch our breath.
A massive thank you to:

-El Paso Animal Services and Humane Society surgical teams for their incredible work.

-Our amazing Vet and his staff for working through their lunches to handle our emergency situations. We couldn't do this without you!

WE NEED YOU!
As you can see, the work never stops, and our team is stretched thin. We desperately need volunteers to help us keep this momentum going. Whether you can spare a few hours or a whole day, please reach out!

WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGE

The Cost of Cruelty … Robin’s Story

Robin deserved a lifetime of safety with her siblings. Instead, she became a victim of an illegal abandonment that cost her everything. Torn from her colony and dumped in a strange area, Robin was left with nothing but her instinct to survive.

While her siblings are still missing and alone, Robin sought shelter in the heat of a car engine. Her simple need for warmth ended in a nightmare of fire and shattered bones. As she headed into surgery to have her leg amputated, we are reminded that abandoning an animal is not just illegal—it is heartless. It leaves the vulnerable to suffer in ways we can barely imagine.

Robin’s battle is far from over. Her burns are catastrophic, and the road to recovery will be long and grueling.

Robin only wanted to live; now, she has to learn how to live with the physical and emotional scars of someone else's cruelty. We are doing everything in our power to show her that humans can be kind, too.

What abandonment really means
When someone "dumps" a cat, they are often trying to offload their guilt by thinking the cat will "find a way." Robin is the proof that they don't.

Abandonment is:
Intentional Neglect: Knowingly placing an animal in a situation where they cannot access their known food or water sources.

Increased Victimization: Forcing a cat into "survival mode" where they make dangerous choices, like climbing into engines, just to stay warm or hide.

Legal Liability: Most states carry heavy fines or jail time for abandonment because the result is almost always extreme suffering or death.

In Texas, abandonment is cruelty. Robin didn't just 'get hurt'—she was a victim of a crime. When you dump a cat, you aren't giving them a chance; you are sentencing them to the agony of pain and the loss of limbs. We are seeking justice for Robin and her missing siblings.

Break the silence. Report cruelty. Your voice is the only thing standing between an animal and a life of suffering. Be the hero who saves them.

Robin and our other rescues are fighting to recover. Please help us give them the second chance they deserve. Every donation changes a life.
