This past weekend, participants joined us for the eighth session of the Skills Link Workshop Series, exploring Artificial Intelligence: AI as a Learning Partner through a hands-on learning experience.

Throughout the workshop, attendees explored AI tools, prompt-building, and responsible AI use while learning how AI can support research, writing, productivity, coursework, and career preparation.

Tech Frontier invites graduate students and advanced undergraduates to apply for a curriculum development opportunity through the NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration STEM Innovator Grant. Applications must be submitted by September 4.

In partnership with the Aerospace Center and UTEP College of Education, this initiative brings together educators, researchers, and makerspace practitioners at Fab Lab El Paso to co-develop hands-on aeronautics STEM learning modules. This work bridges engineering education, workforce development, and experiential learning, translating real-world aerospace concepts into engaging, project-based experiences for K–12 learners.

Selected participants will contribute directly to NASA-funded curriculum design, collaborate with cross-sector partners, and build a strong professional portfolio grounded in authentic instructional development. An honorarium will be provided.

If you have experience in STEM education, aeronautics, flight dynamics, rocketry, or makerspace learning, we encourage you to apply before the deadline.

We’re proud to recap an incredible experience for our Workforce Innovation Manager, Miguel Amaya, as a 2026 Hunt Aspen Institute Fellow.

Through the Aspen Institute’s Summer Socrates Seminar, Miguel joined leaders from across the country for meaningful conversations around a timely question: Will AI redefine leadership, or change what we value in it?

Over four days of discussion and collaboration, Miguel explored the impact of AI beyond technology, including the growing importance of emotional intelligence, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, empathy, and human-centered leadership.

As someone helping prepare our region for an AI-driven economy, Miguel is bringing these insights back to Tech Frontier with a renewed perspective on how we can embrace innovation while continuing to invest in the people and human qualities that drive meaningful change.

We’re grateful to the Woody and Gayle Hunt Family Foundation, , and The Aspen Institute for creating opportunities like this and supporting leaders who are shaping the future of our Borderplex.

On the final day of FAB26, our Tech Frontier and Fab Lab El Paso team explored the conference's Systems & Scaling track, focusing on what it takes to grow and sustain the global Fab Lab network and expand its impact in communities around the world.

Through inspiring keynote sessions and discussions, we gained valuable insights into the importance of collaboration, sustainable partnerships, and long-term strategies that help makerspaces continue to innovate, grow, and create meaningful opportunities for future generations.

To conclude an incredible week, our team also had the opportunity to tour some of Boston's leading innovation hubs, including the Autodesk Technology Center, Ginkgo Bioworks , and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Center for Bits and Atoms. These visits offered a firsthand look at cutting-edge research, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies, leaving us inspired with new ideas to bring back to our makerspace and community in El Paso.

As our journey at FAB26 continued, our Tech Frontier and Fab Lab El Paso team explored how innovation extends beyond technology to create stronger, more resilient communities.

Through inspiring keynote sessions and engaging discussions centered on People & Planet, we discovered how Fab Labs are driving sustainability, local innovation, and community impact by rethinking how we create, share, and steward resources. These conversations reinforced the powerful role makerspaces play in building solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

Beyond the sessions, our team connected with makers, educators, and innovators from around the world, exchanged ideas, and explored new approaches that will help strengthen the makerspace experiences we bring to our community in El Paso.

As the week continued at FAB26, our Tech Frontier and Fab Lab El Paso team explored even more opportunities to learn, collaborate, and connect with the global maker community.

From inspiring keynote sessions on the future of robotics, artificial intelligence, digital fabrication, and education to interactive workshops and meaningful conversations with innovators from around the world, every experience offered new perspectives on how emerging technologies are shaping the future of learning and making.

During the Education & Learning track, our Executive Director, Cathy Chen-Arriaga, presented Smart Makers, highlighting how makerspaces can empower students to develop the technical, collaborative, and critical-thinking skills needed for tomorrow's workforce through hands-on digital fabrication experiences.

Beyond the sessions, our team explored new technologies, exchanged ideas with fellow educators and makers, and discovered innovative approaches that will help strengthen the makerspace experiences we bring to our community in El Paso.

This past weekend, participants joined us for the seventh session of the Skills Link Workshop Series, where they explored Generative AI Fundamentals & Prompt Engineering through an interactive, hands-on learning experience.

Attendees explored the fundamentals of generative AI and large language models while learning to use tools like , Copilot, and Gemini. Through hands-on activities, they practiced effective prompting techniques, discussed responsible AI use, and applied these skills to real-world academic and professional scenarios.

It's been exciting to see the Skills Link Series continue to grow, with more people from our community joining each session to learn new technology skills and connect with others who share a passion for learning.

At Tech Frontier, we believe learning doesn't stop after school or work. We're committed to creating opportunities that help our community keep learning, build new skills, and feel confident navigating today's rapidly changing digital world.

Congratulations to our Workforce Innovation Manager, Miguel Amaya, on being selected as a 2026 Hunt Aspen Institute Fellow! This well deserved recognition reflects Miguel's leadership, vision, and dedication to expanding opportunities through workforce innovation and technology.

As part of this distinguished fellowship, Miguel will attend the Aspen Institute Socrates Program Summer Seminars, where he'll engage with leaders from across the country to explore today's most pressing challenges and opportunities.

At Tech Frontier, Miguel has helped lead the development of programs that expand access to workforce development, technology education, and innovation. From the Skills Link Workshop Series, which connects students and professionals with industry experts, to the Tech Elevate Program, which helps participants strengthen their digital skills. He also helped lead the AI Powered Software Developer Program, where participants learned the foundations of artificial intelligence, software development, and Python while applying their knowledge to real-world projects designed to create meaningful impact.
