Senior dogs like Penelope are getting a second chance! 🐾

We’re thrilled to announce that we are a recipient of an Incubator Grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization! This funding will help us grow and strengthen our programs so we can better serve senior dogs in our community and give more older dogs the care, support, and second chances they deserve.

The Incubator Grant is part of Grey Muzzle’s commitment to supporting smaller organizations as they grow their capacity to help senior dogs. By investing in organizations like ours, Grey Muzzle is helping create a stronger network of lifesaving programs for senior dogs across the country.

A huge thank you to Grey Muzzle and their supporters for believing in the potential of smaller organizations and helping us grow stronger for senior dogs. We’re so grateful to be part of a movement working toward a future where every senior dog has a chance to find safety, love, and a soft landing.

And a thank you to our friends at Viva La Plant Shop for fostering this little pup and giving her a much-needed second chance. We have lots more senior pets like Penelope that need foster homes, if you'd like to make a big difference in a shelter pet's life, please come in and meet them!

You are never too young to make a difference! 🐾🧡

Today, 6-year-old Eliza stopped by with TWO carloads full of donations from a drive she organized at her school to help pets at the shelter and in our community. From food and supplies to much-needed enrichment items, her hard work and leadership will directly help care for animals in need during one of the busiest times of year for shelters.

But this isn’t her first act of kindness. Eliza is also a regular volunteer with , helping hand out pup cups to doggos during their walks at their treat station, and her family are dedicated fosters, Doggy Day Out volunteers, and proud adopters themselves. From bottle baby kittens to at-risk dogs, the family continues to show what compassion for animals looks like in action.

A huge shoutout to Eliza’s parents for raising such empathetic, animal-loving humans and encouraging her passion for helping pets in our community. 🫶

It was also recently Eliza’s birthday, so help us wish her a happy belated birthday and cheer her on in the comments as she continues making a difference for animals across El Paso! 🎉🐶🐱

Thanks to a grant from Miranda Lambert's MuttNation, a $10,000 donation match from Borderland Rescue Fund and Trev's Ranch, and generous donations from our community, 450 community pets are now spayed and neutered!

Thank you to the staff, volunteers, donors, and the traveling veterinary team who made our Spring Spay-A-Thon such a success 💜

02/20/2026

Last year, we hosted our community's first-ever Spay-A-Thon, bringing a veterinary team specializing in mega spay-and-neuter events like these to El Paso. Thanks to their awesome team, El Paso Animal Services staff and volunteers, over 430 pets were spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped in just 3 days.

We are so excited to bring this awesome team back to our community again this year for our Spring 2026 Spay-A-Thon! If you or someone you know needs to get their pet spayed or neutered, registration is now open for this event happening March 13th through March 15th. Spots fill up fast, so head to our website to sign up! ➡️ https://www.friendsofepas.org/spayathon

If you'd like to help make this event and more events in the future happen, please consider donating to our Spay-A-Thon fund! We hope to raise $35,000 to cover the costs of this event. By sponsoring even one spay/neuter procedure at $100, you could reduce the pet overpopulation by hundreds!

Thank you to our partners El Paso Community Foundation, Trev's Ranch, Borderland Rescue Fund and El Paso Animal SErvices for making this year's event possible!
