We’re doing a little something cozy for our crafty q***r community.

On Saturday, September 12, we’re hosting a free virtual candlemaking workshop, and we’ll even mail you a free kit so you can make your candle right along with us from home.

We’re keeping this one small with only 12 spots, so if it sounds like your kind of morning, grab a spot while you can.

Saturday, September 12, 10–11 AM Mountain Time. Virtual, free, and your candlemaking kit is included.

This is the kind of news we love to see.

Starting September 1, a new emergency shelter in Houston will provide a safe place to stay for teens ages 15 to 17 who are experiencing homelessness or other high-risk situations. The shelter will be open to all young people who meet the requirements, with an affirming approach specifically designed to make LGBTQ+ youth feel safe, respected, and welcome.

Because q***r kids deserve more than just a roof over their heads. They deserve spaces where they can breathe, be themselves, and know they belong.

More of this, please.

Every day at The Center, this is somewhere in the back of our minds and right in the middle of our hearts: we’re fighting for you.

For q***r kids figuring themselves out. For trans people who deserve to feel safe. For the people who are out and proud, the people who aren’t ready yet, and everyone somewhere in between.

We’re here. We’re not going anywhere. And we’ll keep showing up for this beautiful, weird, loud, brave community of ours.

Thank you for showing up for The Center, too. We get to keep doing this because you keep believing in us.

Welcoming Week is getting a little more fabulous.

We’re celebrating with Drag Voteria: LGBTQ+ Loteria, prizes, snacks, voter education, and Dede La Camacho keeping the whole night moving as our MC. The League of Women Voters will also be there helping future voters get registered and answering questions.

This one is for everybody. Come play, learn a little, meet some people, and get ready for early voting in October. No candidates, no political parties, no endorsements. Just community, information, and a very q***r game night.

We’re also happy to have El Paso Recovery & Wellness Center partnering with us for the evening.

Please RSVP so we can save you a seat and, very importantly, make sure we have enough snacks: https://forms.gle/tdBZszcyjQEan6La6

All prizes will be awarded through participation in the LGBTQ+ Loteria.

Ten years of The Center.

This morning, the City of El Paso recognized the Borderland Rainbow Center's 10th anniversary with a proclamation at City Hall.

For the past decade, The Center has been a place for community, connection, support, and belonging. Over the years, The Center has grown alongside the community we serve, made possible by the dedication of our staff, board, volunteers, partners, supporters, and the many people who continue to believe in this work.

Today's turnout was a reminder of just how many people have been part of that journey. We couldn't even fit everyone in the photo (we'll get you next time, y'all!).

Thank you to the Mayor and El Paso City Council for recognizing this milestone, with a special thank you to District 2 Representative Josh Acevedo and his office for presenting today's proclamation. Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning to celebrate with us, and to everyone who sent their love and good wishes from afar.
We are proud of how far The Center has come, grateful for the community that continues to show up for us and for one another, and excited for everything still ahead.

Ten years down, and there is still so much more to build together 🌈🌈

Q***r life can be a lot. Coming out, starting over, finding your people, losing some people, figuring yourself out, having to explain yourself way more than anyone should have to.

And somehow we keep making bridges out of all of it.

Toward chosen family. Toward joy. Toward the version of ourselves that feels a little more free, a little louder, a little more ours.

So if you’re in one of those hard parts right now: keep going, q***r babe. There is still so much good stuff ahead of you.

Some days healing looks like progress. Other days it looks like resting, going quiet, changing your mind, asking for help, or simply making it through the day.

There’s no deadline for becoming okay again.

Be gentle with yourself. You’re still figuring things out, and that counts too.

Wimbledon and extreme western forehand grips to pickleball threats, meditation, and what gay tennis actually means.

In the season finale of Healing Arts from the Borderland, Aaron talks with Gay Tennis Podcast host Tony Hagen about tennis, community, and why hitting a ball against a wall can sometimes be its own kind of reset. There’s also a pretty emotional moment near the end as Avery makes an important decision about Season 7.

Season 6, Episode 9: The Art of Gay Tennis: Tony Hagen is out now on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

We’re grateful to the Borderland Rainbow Center and Texas Association Against Sexual Assault for helping support this project.
