Mandy Stewart was at the hospital for her 20-week-ultrasound, excited to see how her baby boy was developing. But the ultrasound did not go as expected.
“Right away you could tell he was upside down. You could see his spine and he wasn’t moving, and I knew he was supposed to be moving..."
There was no heartbeat.
The ultrasound tech's face became very solemn. Mandy burst into tears. Her precious son had died 3 weeks earlier, just a week after they found out he was a boy.
Mandy had shown no signs and had no bleeding or cramping. She had no idea anything was wrong, especially since the placenta was on top and was limiting her ability to feel Roman moving. The doctor told her she would need to be induced and deliver her baby.
Roman was born on September 11, 2015, weighing just 4 oz.
Mandy and her husband spent the whole day holding and cherishing their little boy. With the help of a photographer, they captured priceless photos of Roman and their family.
After grieving the loss of Roman, Mandy and her husband decided to share the photos of Roman online in the hopes that his life will help parents choose life.
“We are very pro-life... It is nice to be able to give our story, even if it were to help just one person—to even help people realize that a baby measuring 15 weeks looks like a person. He had a nose, and you could tell he had eyebrows. It is amazing.”
Let's work to ensure that the dignity of every child - like Roman - is recognized and protected. ❤️
