The purpose of ACM-W is to support, promote, and empower Women in Computer Science. This is done through outreach projects where we educate young women and girls throughout our border city of El Paso, TX about Computer Science and technology development, as well as through in-school programs, where we create a network of support for all women in Computer Science, Undergraduate and Graduate, as wel
l as where we educate all students about the importance of equal representation in the Computer Science field. Some of our most notable programs include our Girl Scouts Coding Camp, where young Girl Scouts earn badges by learning about technology development and coding basics; our Google igniteCS program, an educational program funded by Google where we teach computer science at schools with curriculum we build; and our monthly Women in CS UTEP Workshops, where we have at least one women per month from an industry or academic position related to Computer Science speak to our students about what it is like to be a women in their position. ACM-W is open to any students of any sexual orientation who are interested in technology and making technology development a field where any person who wishes to play their part has an equal opportunity to make their voice heard.
