Have you ever heard that secondhand smoke “isn't that bad”? Or maybe seen people brush it off?

The fact is, even brief exposure to secondhand smoke can cause immediate harm. In people who do not smoke, secondhand smoke can cause:

• Adults: heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, premature death & other diseases
• Pregnant women: reproductive health effects & low birth weight
• Children & Babies: respiratory & ear infections, asthma attacks & SIDS

In 2001, the City of El Paso adopted a comprehensive smoke-free policy to protect all residents from secondhand smoke.

Do you think secondhand smoke is taken more seriously nowadays?
A. Yes, definitely
B. A little more
C. I’m not sure

Thinking about quitting? You don’t have to do it alone.

We were happy to be at the Fort Bliss Relocation Fair with our Teen Mock Bedroom exhibit! 🛏️🔍

With our Teen Mock Bedroom exhibit, we helped parents recognize disguised v**es and connected with families coming from outside the state to share important information about cannabis laws, as laws vary by state and in Texas, possession of THC could carry legal consequences.

A Smoke Free Paso del Norte, an initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, proudly partnered with Action for Healthy Kids and the Texas National Guard to provide families with the information and resources they need to keep kids healthy and safe.

Do you think seeing our Mock Bedroom exhibit could help you identify hidden v**es?

As a parent, would you know what to look for? We challenged Camila, an El Paso resident, to Spot the V**e. Some were hidden in plain sight, disguised as everyday items like a pen or a highlighter.

Many v**es can look like ordinary objects, making them harder to recognize. Watch to see which ones she missed.

If you found a v**e that looked like an everyday item, what would you do?

A) Talk to my child about it
B) Ask questions to learn more
C) I’m not sure what I would do
