Good morning, Texas. Thursday is here, and August is finally running out of days. Unfortunately, it appears to have plenty of degrees left.

North Texas could see a few afternoon storms, East Texas is keeping the humidity turned up, Central Texas gets another hot and sunny day, South Texas continues making shade the most popular destination in town, and West Texas stays mostly hot and dry.

By afternoon, much of Texas will be well into the 90s. A/C units will be putting in overtime, steering wheels will require a cautious first touch, and somebody will stand in front of an open refrigerator for 30 seconds before remembering what they actually went in there for.

A few lucky spots may catch some rain later. Everybody else, keep something cold nearby and take it easy outside.

August has four days left. The heat has requested an extension. 🤠☀️🥵

[4AM Update] The Heat Advisory in effect for August 25 now includes portions of the Tularosa Basin and the White Sands Missile Range. Highs will be near 105 in the orange-shaded areas this afternoon.

EXTREME HEAT can put extra stress on your tires. Prevent tire blowouts by taking a moment to check your tire pressure and inspect tire treads Also, avoid overloading and excess speed to avoid increasing heat and stress on your tires.

Good morning, Texas. Friday made it, and so did the heat. At this point, July isn’t even trying to surprise us anymore. It’s just showing up every morning like it owns the place.

North Texas could see a few afternoon thunderstorms, East Texas is keeping the humidity thick enough to make your porch swing squeak in slow motion, Central Texas gets another full day of sunshine, South Texas is reminding everyone that parking under a tree is a luxury, and West Texas is serving up another day of sunshine with all the moisture of a saltine cracker.

By afternoon, temperatures will climb well into the 90s across much of the state. Every gas station freezer door will get opened just for the breeze, somebody will hold their hand over the truck seat before committing to sitting down, and at least one Texan will confidently announce, “It’s only July,” before immediately regretting saying it out loud.

By evening, a few lucky folks may catch a passing shower while the rest of us stand outside for exactly thirty seconds, decide it’s still too hot, and head right back inside. Tomorrow is August, but don’t expect the thermostat to notice. 🤠☀️⛈️🌡️

Whether you’re on the football field, in marching band, color guard, cheer, cross country, or supporting your school from the stands, remember that the Texas heat is part of the season. Make heat safety part of your game plan!

💧 Drink water before, during, and after activities.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade whenever possible.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
🧢 Listen to your coaches and directors, and don’t ignore the signs of heat illness.
🤝 Look out for your teammates and friends.
