What happens when you combine art + a group of pre-teens & teens + residents of a memory care facility? You get lively conversation, joyful moments with laughter and love, and incredible artistic outcomes. We had a wonderful time making art together ๐Ÿ’œ

Thanks to the Temple Mount Sinai preteens & teens who joined us at Monte Vistaโ€™s memory care facility to make stained glass butterflies together! Thanks also to and for helping fund Project Mariposa.

๐Ÿ“† Saturday, March 7
โฐ11 am - 3 pm
๐Ÿ“El Paso Museum of History
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธFree Event

Join us as we celebrate Hinamatsuri (้››็ฅญใ‚Š), also known as Girlsโ€™ Day or Dollโ€™s Day! Hinamatsuri is an annual Japanese celebration that honors the happiness and well-being of young girls. As is tradition, we will have a set of hina dolls on display. Hina dolls are a centuries-old tradition in Japan and have come to be seen as guardian dolls for young girls. A traditional display will feature fifteen dolls presented on a tiered stand meant to mimic the imperial court. Most important among the dolls are the emperor and empress dolls, which are displayed at the top.

During this event, visitors will be invited view a display of hina dolls, learn more about the traditions of Hinamatsuri, and participate in free hands-on activities. We encourage guests of all cultures to join us to learn more about this tradition! This event is part of the programming for Mountain of Gold: A History of East and Southeast Asian Cultures in El Paso del Norte, 1880s-1980s. Mountain of Gold highlights local Japanese families and their stories along the border.

Frontera Arts and Education Collaborative will be hosting a doll-making activity!
