💜 Remembering Patrick Swayze with gratitude 💜
Today, we remember Patrick Swayze, who passed away on September 14, 2009.
For many in the LGBTQ+ community and all of us who love them, we remember him not only for the roles that made him famous, but also for the character of Vida Boheme in To Wong Foo.
In 1995, Swayze stepped into a role that challenged expectations and brought a drag queen to the screen with elegance, humor, strength, compassion, and heart. Vida was more than a costume or a caricature. She was a person who cared deeply for others and reminded us that kindness and dignity can be powerful forms of visibility. (Advocate.com)
Sometimes, a role leaves a small print in history, a little mark that opens a door for someone else to be seen.
For q***r people, visibility matters. Seeing our dear LGBTQ+ represented, especially with humanity and kindness, can help create space for understanding, acceptance, and belonging.
Today, PFLAG El Paso remembers Patrick Swayze with gratitude for the mark he left through Vida Boheme and for the reminder that representation can help people see one another with a little more compassion.
