Free Daniel Villegas - Quest for Justice Daniel Villegas, an innocent teenager, who was coerced into a false confession through harsh, relentless interrogation and was given a life-term in prison.

An organization dedicated to the exoneration of the wrongfully convicted has taken up the case of an El Paso man sentenced to life in prison in a double murder that occurred when he was 16. The Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth is looking into the case of Daniel Villegas. The center is affiliated with the law school at Northwestern University and is the only innocence project in the nation focused exclusively on individuals convicted of a crime when they were teenagers.

Today is Wrongful Conviction’s Day. If you haven’t already seen “When They See Us,” on Netflix and you are interested in the (in)justice system, I’d recommend that you watch it. The series does a phenomenal job of making you feel the myriad of emotions and problems that arise from not only being wrongfully convicted, but having a family member that is wrongfully convicted. Watching the movie was a full circle moment. After seeing the Exonerated 5’s story in 2002, we finally had a path to follow to seek any kind of help we could find to try to help exonerate Daniel Villegas. 16 years after first reaching out to wrongful conviction programs, Daniel was finally found not guilty of crimes that he did not commit. We have our golf tournament to benefit Proclaim justice on Friday November the 10th. Guest Speaker Michael Morton who was wrongfully convicted for his wife Christine's murder. After serving 25 years in prison, he was exonerated with the help of the Innocence Project and DNA evidence suppressed by the prosecutor.
