๐๐๏ธ๐ Honoring Lives Lost in Darkness ๐๐๏ธ๐
On December 20th, 2024, the eve of the winter solsticeโthe longest and darkest night of the yearโour community gathered in solemn remembrance of the 35+ men and women who tragically lost their lives while enduring homelessness this year.
With hearts heavy with sorrow, we lit candles in their honor. Each flame flickered not only for those we knew but also for the many who passed unseen and unknown, far from the warmth of community. Their lives, no matter how brief or shadowed, held meaning. They were our neighbors, our brothers and sisters, and they deserved better.
Ray Tullius, Executive Director of the Opportunity Center for the Homeless, shared these profound words:
> โOne life lost due to homelessness is one too many for a loving and supportive community like ours. This event is a call to action to remember those we have lost and to cherish our loved ones this Christmas season."
As we navigate this season of giving and reflection, may their memories serve as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity and the urgency of our work. Let us renew our commitment to ensuring that no one faces such darkness alone. Together, we can illuminate the path toward hope and dignity for all.
