🗣️ Sun Metro LIFT Riders ... September Starts With You!

Paratransit is a Civil Right — and your experience matters!

The Sun Metro LIFT is supposed to help people with disabilities get around El Paso — to work, school, appointments, and the places that make life feel full. But many riders, especially youth, deal with long waits, early pickups, confusing schedules, and stress that shouldn’t be part of simply getting a ride.

If you’ve ever felt ignored, rushed, or stuck because of the LIFT, you’re not alone. And you deserve better.

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), paratransit must be fair and reliable — just like regular bus service.

That means:
• You can request a ride one day before.
• The LIFT must arrive within one hour of the time you asked for.
• Service must cover the same areas and hours as regular buses.

These are your rights — not favors.

Your voice can change things

Join the Paratransit Advisory Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at either 10:00 AM or 6:00 PM MST. Share what you’ve been through. Speak up for yourself and for other youth who depend on the LIFT every day.

💙 Planning for the Future of a Loved One with a Disability?

A Special Needs Trust is a legal arrangement designed to help protect assets for an individual with a disability while helping preserve eligibility for certain government benefits.

🔹 Important things to know:
• Special Needs Trusts must follow both federal and state laws, so working with a qualified attorney is important.
• A Special Needs Trust does not always have to be a separate document. Its provisions may sometimes be included in other estate-planning documents, such as a will.
• Proper planning can help families provide additional financial support for their loved one without unintentionally affecting eligibility for certain public benefits.

📌 Families considering a Special Needs Trust should speak with an attorney experienced in special needs and estate planning to determine the best option for their individual circumstances.

Knowledge is an important part of planning for the future. 💙
