Congratulations to Daniel Carrera, PE, PTOE, President of TSPE El Paso Chapter, for being awarded one of four statewide Texas Society of Professional Engineers - TSPE’s Excellence Awards – a distinguished recognition celebrating individuals and chapters that go above and beyond to advance the mission and goals of TSPE. Daniel has served as TSPE El Paso Chapter President since 2024 and serves as UTEP TSPE Student Chapter’s Professional Liaison. He is very passionate about mentoring the next generation. His influence extends beyond El Paso, as he has also mentored and presented to student chapters across the state, including UT-RGV’s and UT-Austin’s TSPE Student Chapters . Past El Paso award winners include the UTEP TSPE Student Chapter (2016), Dr. Carlos Chang (UTEP, 2018), and Nancy Lopez (2023). Congratulations, Daniel!

Good afternoon members,

On behalf of John L. Chapin High School, we are pleased to invite you all to serve as a judge at their upcoming Pre-Engineering Symposium. The event will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at John L. Chapin High School - 7000 Dyer St, El Paso, TX 79904.

This symposium is a highlight of the academic year, showcasing the innovation, creativity, and technical skills of our pre-engineering students. Participants will present projects that reflect their learning in design, problem-solving, and applied engineering concepts. Your expertise and professional insight would provide invaluable feedback and encouragement for our students as they take important steps toward future careers in engineering and related fields.

As a judge, you will be asked to:

Review and evaluate student projects
Engage with students by asking questions about their work
Provide constructive feedback
Assist in selecting outstanding projects for recognition

A brief orientation and judging guidelines will be provided at the start of the event to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for any questions.
