On October 13, 2020 Carol lost her battle against pancreatic cancer at the age of 48. Carol was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer on July 14, 2019. Her only options were life prolonging treatments and faith. Every day Carol was given a fighting chance mattered.

The Vasquez Family created a fund in her honor to help shine a light on this devastating disease. Carolina's Sunshine Fund at University Medical Center Foundation assists pancreatic cancer patients who are unable to afford to stay on their plan to receive treatments and quality of life necessities. November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. The Carolina's Sunshine Fund was created for pancreatic cancer patients battling this devastating disease. The fund assists pancreatic cancer patients enrolled in the Sobreviviendo Cancer/Surviving Cancer program at University Medical Center in El Paso. The program helps patients unable to afford medical services receive life prolonging therapies and quality of life necessities. Every day they are given a fighting chance to live matters.
