The first Tuesday of every month, English In Action hosts a tutor Coffee Hour for our volunteers to meet one another and share their tutoring challenges and successes. Tutors also pick up useful nuggets from English In Action Match Advisors, members of staff who guide English In Action learners & tutors during their tutoring relationships and beyond. May's tip, courtesy of Match Advisor Beatriz Ferrufino: why not label your house with post-its with everyday English vocabulary? A simple way to imprint and learn common household items, like "chair", "refrigerator", and "kitchen".

Many thanks to Morgan, Scott, Jackie, Martha, Steve, and Doug for your dedication as tutors and for all you give to your learners!

English In Action staff recently welcomed longtime supporter Nancy Magoon for a tour of our English In Action Center for Communication in El Jebel. Her foundational gifts to our Welcome Home capital campaign helped make our new home a reality. Nancy is a staunch believer in English In Action’s work and feels that learning English opens countless opportunities for newcomers to the valley. Shared language helps to weave common threads among community members from different backgrounds and cultural traditions.

English In Action's Immigrant Voices storytelling event last week was extraordinary! Every speaker lit up the stage with their own unique energy and touched the audience with their honesty and courage. Many of you who were there experienced it for yourselves and witnessed how deeply each story impacted the packed house at TACAW. Our storytellers shared with brave vulnerability about their experiences of finding their way in new places, of learning English, of navigating strange cultures and re-capturing a sense of belonging, and of achieving their dreams. Together, we honored members of immigrant communities nationwide who lack the freedom, access and power to tell their own stories. It was a night to be remembered and treasured! If you missed it, please take a moment to watch the video on YouTube.
