Scammers use a variety of tactics to try to get your Medicare number—so it’s important to stay aware of their tricks. They may create a sense of urgency, offer “free” services or products, or pretend to be from a trusted organization.

To help protect yourself:
🔹 Be cautious of unexpected calls, emails, or visits asking for personal information
🔹 Never share your Medicare number unless you initiated the contact
🔹 Review your Medicare statements regularly for anything unfamiliar

Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Sharing silly moments with family is important. Sharing Medicare numbers with people who ask for it over the phone, through email, or at the door is risky.

If you have a family member or take care of someone over 65, talk to them about never sharing their Medicare number to unsolicited requests. This is likely a scam and could lead to medical identity theft.

These programs support individuals in staying in their homes and maintaining ties to their communities. Tens of millions of Americans are in critical need of assistance with simple household tasks, daily errands, and transportation. Many also need increased companionship to avert the devastating effects of isolation. Support is vital for individuals to maintain the ability to live independently. Scam highlight of the Day:

This is a good example of a scam that may show up in your email inbox. You'll notice that they use a recognizable business with all the right colors and symbols. Also, they are offering something for free that you have to click a link to get. Everyone likes free, especially if you're into the particular thing they're offering. But, when you look closer you'll see the problem. Look at the sending email address, not the tagline but the actual address, and you'll notice what amounts to a just a series of random numbers. It's not always this easy. If the scammer is really slick they will supply an address that looks legitimate but with some letter out of place or an extra character somewhere in it. For example, in this particular instance, something like harbrefreight.com or harborfr3ight.com, so look close. If there's any doubt, DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINK unless you know 100% that it came from a trustworthy source. Scam filters do a pretty good job of catching these, but they can slip through.
