El Dorado Days
July 1 - 4, 2018
‘Back in the Day’
Welcome back to celebrate, reunite and reminisce ‘Back in the Day’ when WHS won state championships in both football and basketball; when the marching band and choir won honors at the state competitions and for the younger crowd from EHS when back-to-back football championships were won!
We will begin with the Memorial Service on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church. George Gurst Allen, Margarine White Williams and Barbara Clark have prepared an interesting program posthumously honoring former principal, Prof. N.F. Jackson and his wife, Ruth, former choir director; Mr. Earl Yates, former science instructor and his wife, Harriet, study hall monitor and dietician and the recently retired Honorable Judge VanHook. The History and Legacy of WHS will be presented by Barbara Clark. Music will be provided by Rev. Archie Easter and Mark Massey. Thank you Bishop Calloway for opening your doors again.
The nightly activities will be held at the Hot Spot (Union County Fair Ground). Mooney Man is our D.J. On Sunday night we will have the meet and greet with refreshments prepared by Juanita Adams Brown. Let’s begin by wearing our school colors: purple & gold or purple & white. We suggest wearing t-shirts from former El Dorado Days, class or family reunions.
On Tuesday night, let’s throw back and dress in ‘Back in the Day’ outfits (Afros, bell bottoms, platforms, mini-dresses, dashikis, etc.). Let’s see who can come up with the most appropriate attire.
The Nile and Marzell Smith Museum of African American History is hosting a fund raiser Ball on Saturday, June 30, at Washington Middle School . The Ball will begin at 7:00 p.m. Donation $25. Finger food will be served. The Museum will open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Ralph Smith will hold a Bible Study at St. James Church on Tuesday, July 3. There will be a reception from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. and the Bible Study will immediately follow.
The Class of 1968 is having its’ 50th reunion beginning on Friday, June 29 - July 1. Contact Gwen Snowden, Bobby Peterson, Joe Berry or other 1968 classmates living in El Dorado.
We’re looking forward to seeing you!
