Mental Health Awareness Month may be coming to a close, but the work continues every day 💚

This month, we had the opportunity to:
• Highlight the incredible therapists behind our mission
• Share the importance of mental health and trauma-informed care
• Reflect on the impact we’re making in the lives of children and families

We’re grateful for our team, our community, and everyone who helps make this work possible.

Because every conversation, every connection, and every moment of support matters.

As we continue highlighting the incredible therapists who make a difference every day, we'd like to introduce Lauren! 💛 Here is what she had to say:

Why are you passionate about the work you do?

"I am deeply passionate about the work I do because I get to support clients process, rewrite, and reclaim their stories to create meaning and empowerment. I believe in the importance of access to mental health services for children and families through trauma-informed practices. At Sunlight, we provide free services to families increasing this accessibility and removing a potential barrier. I am so grateful for the opportunity to provide these services and make an impact on not only the families I serve but to also be a part of an organization that brings awareness to the community through education and advocacy."

What do you enjoy most about working with the children and families we serve?

"What I enjoy most about working with children and families are the moments that include 'I am proud of myself' or 'I feel brave now.' It is in those moments where I am reminded of the profound impact the therapeutic process can have especially when it began with anxiety, fear, and devastation. To see children and families grow to achieve a sense of hope and healing is truly an honor to witness as a therapist."

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re introducing Chelsea, another one of our incredible therapists 💚

Here’s what she had to say:

“I am passionate about the work I do at Sunlight because it allows me to walk alongside children and their families during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Being trusted during such vulnerable times is incredibly meaningful to me, and I feel honored to help create space for healing, safety, and hope while supporting families as they build skills and move forward.

What I enjoy most about working with the children and families we serve is watching their confidence grow over time. Seeing clients begin to trust themselves, use the skills they’ve learned in therapy, strengthen their relationships, and work toward graduating from services is incredibly rewarding and a constant reminder of why this work matters so much to me.”

Wellness Wednesday!

Healing isn’t about feeling okay all the time.

It’s about learning to understand your emotions, building resilience, and giving yourself grace in the hard moments.

Growth looks like showing up, even when it’s uncomfortable, and choosing compassion for yourself along the way.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re introducing another one of our incredible therapists, Megan💚

Here’s what she had to say:

Why are you passionate about the work you do?

I am passionate about this work because I believe healing is possible when children and families feel safe, supported, and understood. I value being able to help children process difficult experiences and regain a sense of safety and confidence in their lives.

What is one thing you wish more people understood about mental health?

I wish more people understood that trauma can affect children in many different ways and behaviors are often a form of communication. With patience, support, and healthy relationships, healing and growth can happen.

What do you enjoy most about working with the children and families we serve?

What I enjoy most is helping children and families strengthen their connection and feel hopeful again. I value creating a space where children feel emotionally safe enough to express themselves and where caregivers feel supported in understanding their child’s needs. Watching families grow in communication, trust, and confidence throughout the healing process is incredibly rewarding.

A huge thank you to the 6th grade students at Andover Central Middle School for putting together these thoughtful craft kits complete with handwritten notes for the children we serve. 💛

Acts of kindness like these remind us how powerful community support can be. Thank you for using your creativity, compassion, and time to help brighten someone’s day!

Support doesn’t stop at one location, it reaches across our entire community. 💚

This year, children and families from 20 cities and 8 counties received mental health services through Sunlight.

Because access to care should never depend on where you live.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re proud to highlight our Clinical Director, Lindsay Kroeger💚

A powerful reminder for anyone who works with or cares for children:

"With child and adolescent mental health, I wish more adults understood this:

Youth often do not show distress in ways that look neat or easy to interpret. It can show up as rage, anxiety, defiance, withdrawal, or silence. And it doesn’t wait for adults to feel comfortable or ready to see it. When we dismiss these signals, they don’t disappear, they deepen and grow with the child. Young people often feel shame, and they don’t have language to explain what they’re feeling. That means it becomes the adult’s responsibility to listen earlier, look closer, and stay curious longer. If adults can shift from “What is wrong with this child?” to “What has happened to this child?” everything changes. We move from reacting to behavior to responding to need.”
