Walnut River Ringnecks of Pheasants & Quail Forever Care about the future of pheasants, quail and our upland birds? So do we! We can control the habitat - but we can’t control the weather.

Join us as we work to improve habitat for all wildlife and help introduce our youth to conservation values, learning outdoor activities and be stewards for the future! As you probably already know, upland bird hunting has time-honored traditions and sadly on the decline due to populations of bobwhite quail, pheasants, grouse and other upland bird species that are declining rapidly across the south

ern United States. Reasons for their decline are based on many variables - but most especially on habitat and weather. So to help these birds regain some of their population, we have to start with improving and restoring habitat for not only quail, but other wildlife as well. The journey for good quail habitat begins with You - and the community that you live in, to help educate, spread the word, encourage better land practices and much more. Which is why every quail hunter—and there are approximately 1 million nationwide—should be a Quail Forever member. No organization does more to improve habitat that produces quail than Quail Forever. Becoming a part of the effort is rewarding - and YES, you CAN make a Difference!

It is that time of the year again! We are hosting a Hybrid Hunter Education field day out at the El DoradoState Park ShootingRange. If you, or someone you know is needing to get certified prior to the start of turkey season or next year's deer season, this is the chance!

Date: March 21, 2026
Time: Noon- 5pm
Who: Anyone 11 and older

Hello How fun would that be to have Pheasant and Quail license plates?! Be sure to scan the QR code and add your signature for support!!

We’re so close! Just one last step to make these license plates a reality. We need 500 signatures, all collected in a special, condensed space, before presenting the bill to the legislature in February.

Day 3 of Monarch tagging was another success! We tagged another 80+ butterflies and many other fun critters. A total of 200 tagged Monarchs are now making their way to Mexico for the winter. We wished them all well on their journey and look forward to seeing future generations next year!

Another successful evening tagging monarchs. We tagged over 70 tonight! We have approximately 80 more tags left. Let's try to get enough people out tomorrow to use all of the tags. Please share with your family and friends that may be interested. This is a great evening outdoors for all ages!

The butterflies are officially here! Who is ready to do some tagging!!?? We will be out at Boulder Bluff Area 3, just past the pay station on the north side of the lake (same as last year). Come for one evening or come for all 3 evenings. We have lots of tags and will hopefully see lots of butterflies and other fun critters!

The butterflies are not here yet. We will see when they show up and when volunteers can help. Probably late next week.

We will have someone check this evening but it looks like the butterflies are still hanging out in Nebraska. There is a big front coming in at the beginning of the week and should bring the butterflies with it some time later in the week.

It is that time again!! We have tags and we have nets, now we just need the butterflies to arrive!!

It's Monarch migration time! We are planning to tag Monarchs beginning Sunday, September 21, 2025 starting and 5:30 and going till dark at El Dorado Lake, west side, north of the dam (watch for signs). Reports are that a few are showing up in our area. Check back later this week for an update.

Monarch Update: We went out to check out our tagging location and only saw 2 butterflies. Hopefully they start moving in later in the week 🤞
