This past weekend was the time for a number of high schools and colleges to hold graduation ceremonies. There were lots of parties and celebrations with family and friends coming together. As I proudly sat at the high school graduation ceremony for my granddaughter, I thought about the support she has. Her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, and other extended family members made it a priority to celebrate her accomplishments. It also led me to think about the contrast I am aware of from working with youth in foster care who have been victims of abuse and neglect. Youth who have also reached this important milestone but because of circumstances beyond their control have no long-term relationships with anyone to cheer as they cross the stage or help them celebrate. As an example, one of our CASA children was in foster care and experienced many different placements throughout the state. For more than seven years, the appointed CASA volunteer was the only consistent person in this young person's life, visiting and advocating no matter where placement happened to be. On graduation afternoon, the CASA volunteer was the only person who was there for the youth. Attending the ceremony was so important for both of them. As a CASA volunteer, you can have an important impact on a child's future. Please consider volunteering.

April 2012 - Judge Rebecca Lindamood was a true champion for all children. She was so deserving of this honor. From the very beginning, Judge Lindamood worked hard to support the Tri-County CASA program, the mission and our CASA volunteers.
