We're so grateful to be part of this conversation with The Nonprofit Podcast with My Sister's House, WEAVE, Inc., and Sacramento Family Justice Center.

The strongest violence-prevention strategy is a connected community.

No single nonprofit can address every barrier a survivor faces. Collaboration among nonprofits, businesses, schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement and individuals creates a safety net that makes earlier intervention possible.

More than a race.

Today we're looking back on October 18, when runners, walkers, and families gathered in Folsom for the 2025 Break Free Run - 3Strands Global Foundation's signature run/walk to help end human trafficking. Every step helped fund the prevention education and survivor support.

None of it happens alone. Our deepest gratitude to the volunteers who made the morning run, the sponsors and community partners who stood beside us, and every participant who reminded us that freedom is a team effort.

Thank you for showing up. We're grateful to be on the team with you, and we look forward to the future.

3Strands believes prevention education is a cornerstone to helping prevent Human Trafficking. Our kids are a target, and recognizing that is the first step forward. We can equip our children with the tools they need to recognize exploitation, and secure a safer community by doing so. On August 10, 3Strands Global Foundation joined the California Survivor Coalition for Advocacy Day at the Capitol alongside survivor leaders, members of our Survivor Advisory Board, and allied organizations advancing survivor-centered policy reform. Several of our staff in attendance also bring lived experience, grounding our advocacy in both professional expertise and personal understanding.

From child welfare and family court reform to stronger trafficking and buyer accountability, expanded survivor rights, youth transition support, and statewide human trafficking prevention training, the message was clear: survivors must be at the table shaping the policies that impact their lives.

3Strands Global Foundation was proud to lend our voice alongside this coalition and, as always, to be guided by the leadership and expertise of survivors themselves.

“Meaningful systems change happens when lived experience is not simply heard, but valued as essential expertise in shaping policy, practice, and protection," Hollie Nadel, Director of Advocacy and Engagement, 3Strands Global Foundation, said.

Financial sextortion often begins with a fake online connection and quickly turns into threats for money. Teen boys are increasingly being targeted, but anyone can be affected.

The most important message: Do not pay, and do not face it alone. Save evidence, block the offender, report the account, and reach out to a trusted adult or law enforcement.

Working to fight trafficking takes a mindset built for endurance, the ability to hold hope and hard truths at the same time, and the discipline to keep showing up when progress takes time. We know these conversations are hard to sit with, but staying silent doesn't protect anyone. At 3Strands, we believe talking openly about how to remain grounded when continuously working toward a better future. Ending exploitation isn't a race. We share this lifelong commitment as a community.

Imagine finally escaping your trafficker... and then being turned away at the airport because you don't have a photo ID.

For too many survivors, that's the wall standing between them and freedom.

New bipartisan legislation could tear it down. The Jimmy Deal Trafficking Survivors Assistance Act would place a trained Trafficking Survivor Point of Contact at every TSA-screened airport in the country — so survivors without government-issued ID can still reach safety and reunite with their families.

Introduced by Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto with Sen. Jerry Moran, and backed by Polaris, Freedom Network USA, Street Grace, and airport leaders nationwide, the bill honors Jimmy Deal, who helped survivors without ID get approved for travel when no one else would.

At 3Strands, we believe awareness is the first step in preventing human trafficking. Recognizing behavioral patterns, understanding risk factors, and knowing how to respond can help protect vulnerable youth. 3Strands is committed to equipping students, parents, and communities with age-appropriate tools to identify warning signs and promote personal safety. By focusing on education rather than fear, we empower young people to make informed decisions and seek help when something feels wrong. Building awareness around trafficking prevention creates safer environments and strengthens communities through knowledge, vigilance, and proactive support for those who may be at risk.
