Meet Mr. and Mrs. Enriquez! Jennifer and I go way back—we attended United South High School together and were teammates in several sports during those years.

Today, they stopped by Itzel's Neighborly Nest to donate clothes and shoes for our community, and it truly made my day. I always like to recognize those who give, because out of all the places they could choose to donate, they chose to think of us and our community.

Today, my heart is full as we officially opened Itzel’s Neighborly Nest, our community closet and pantry created with love, dignity, and a deep commitment to our families.

This vision was born from a simple belief: no neighbor should ever feel alone during difficult times. Whether it’s a family needing groceries to get through the week, a child needing clothing or school essentials, or a senior stretching every dollar, this space was created for you.

Itzel’s Neighborly Nest is more than a pantry or a closet. It is a promise.

A promise that we see you.
A promise that we care.
A promise that our city leads with compassion and action.

As Mayor, I believe leadership is not only about infrastructure and policy, it’s also about creating systems that uplift, support, and protect the most vulnerable among us. This initiative reflects the kind of community we are: generous, united, and neighborly.

None of this would be possible without our volunteers, donors, staff, and community partners who stepped up to turn this dream into reality. Your kindness is what fills these shelves and makes this Nest strong.

This is just the beginning. Together, we will continue building a city where every family feels supported and valued.
