Our every own Eielson Defender, TSgt Rebecca Piela, was part of this momentous occasion! Way to go ma’am!

The Air Force Security Forces Center continued to bolster total force capabilities in support of the Department of the Air Force Defender Next initiative with the graduation Dec. 17 of the first-ever law enforcement credentials course. Credentialing the 31 security forces graduates at the Veterans Affairs Law Enforcement Center in Little Rock recognizes their professional achievement for completing the DoD POST training requirements with formal acknowledgement they are certified law enforcement Defenders. AFSFC is responsible for administering all civilian police authorizations for security forces and manages the curriculum to ensure military and civilian Defenders receive the same education and training.

I have her picture hanging in my office at the Pentagon…a constant reminder of why I serve.

Sixteen years ago, today, A1C Elizabeth Jacobson made the ultimate sacrifice, becoming the first Security Forces member, and first female Airman to die in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was 21.

We serve to build a better world, a safer world, for future generations. We serve to honor the sacrifice of all those who gave their lives to support that vision….heroes like A1C Elizabeth Jacobson.
