This morning, the fog settled over the garden, the birds were already awake, and for a few moments, the world remembered how to be quiet.

We're told we need more. More productivity. More notifications. More noise. More urgency.

But what if what we're really missing... is ourselves?

Shambhala is the place people come to remember who they are.
Not because we have all the answers.
But because nature has a way of gently returning us to ourselves.

Sometimes that looks like harvesting potatoes. Sometimes it's sitting by the creek. Sometimes it's simply hearing birdsong instead of notifications.

The world will still be there when you go back.
For a little while, let the forest have your attention.

There aren't enough words to express our gratitude for our first extended-stay intern who's been on Shambhala since March 21st Spring Equinox.

Xander hit the ground running, helping to install the intern yurt he'd be staying on Day 1! Between then and his last day, he's been an invaluable addition to our quantum-leap summer expanding our gardens and orchard, setting up the mill and milling wood, washing yurts, roofing a bathhouse, dumping and tracking humanure, building a chicken coop, harvesting trees for firewood from a friends property, and generally just being his effervescent self. We hope you learned as much from us as we learned from you!

Here's to your next adventure, and hopefully a return someday to see the impact you've made ripple outward. You're an amazing human!

Washing yurts, squashing brassica worms, 2" of rain in the tanks (hence the yurt washing!), fencing apple trees from munching deer, and all the other things that come with living off grid on a peaceful sanctuary ❤️

🦉 Building Habitat, Restoring Balance

One of the projects from our Summer Solstice gathering was building owl boxes together beside the creek. Huge thanks to our resident Marshal, for precutting all the pieces and guiding the assembly process!

Shambhala is home to many wild neighbors, including the barred owls we often hear calling through the woods at night. By adding nest boxes, we're hoping to create additional habitat for smaller native owls, such as Eastern Screech Owls, which readily use artificial nesting cavities.

Owls play an important role in a healthy ecosystem by helping keep rodent populations in check. Fewer rodents can contribute to a healthier balance among many species, including ticks and other species that rely on rodent hosts during parts of their life cycle.

As we continue regenerating this land, we're learning that sometimes the best solutions aren't chemicals or interventions—they're creating habitat and inviting nature to do what it does best.

🌿 Every box we hang is a small act of stewardship, and a reminder that regeneration happens one relationship at a time.

Thank you to our amazing work crew who helped us add the hardest phase of the lasagna bed - the trench for the pest barrier, and the block frame for additional growing area! It was a great day in the flow, many hands make light work!

Yesterday two of our founding members used their dowsing skills on our new freshwater spring, with Earth Acupuncture and Tensor Rings. Then we welcomed some of our amazing neighbors and friends to help bless the spring. It's so great to have found our tribe, those who understand how nature talks to us, and show up to help us help her heal!

3 yrs ago this month, we weren't even on the land yet, and we hosted 3 WWOOF interns who came individually from April to May for about a week each. We were so brand new, we didn't have any water or electric onsite. Just 2 empty yurts, and big dreams. 🙏🏼♥️
