We had a surprise visit today from retired NFL player, Green Bay Packer running back, Ahman Green.

Ahman was a 4 time pro bowler, 1 time all pro and has been inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. He is currently head of E-Sports at Lakeland University, Wisconsin. Ahman, Andrew Weilgus, head of E-Sports at Stockton University and others met at our PAL facility to discuss, the NFL Flag football program, soccer and E-sports events to be held at PAL’s new Crossplex.

This meeting comes on the heels of great meetings with our State Senator, Vince Polistina, Hope Ranch, Atlantic County Sheriff, Eric Scheffler, members of the United States Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol and Principal Academy.

Very exciting times for the Police Activities League of EHT and Atlantic County and our youth

Shore's Medical Explorers Program is back, in person! Medical Explorers is a monthly program during the school year for high school students interested in pursuing careers in medicine or learning more about opportunities in the medical field.

The first meeting will be held in DiOrio Hall on Wednesday, November 2 from 5:30p-7p, and then the first Wednesday of each month through June.

At the meetings, students will hear presentations by physicians, nurses, and various healthcare workers, as well as participate in hands-on learning experiences in the many aspects of medical care. Throughout the year, students will also have the opportunity to participate in community health and hospital-related events and earn community service hours.

For more information about Medical Explorers, email Bill DeJesus ([email protected]).

"Voting is very important to my family and me. My Mom told me about my great grandparents and women that weren't allowed to vote that marched and were sometimes hurt trying to register for the right to vote.

My grandma, my dad's mom, was arrested marching so that everyone, every kind of person would be able to vote. It is important that we get to know all about the people who are asking us to put them in office. I belong to a County Disability Caucus where we talk about the candidates and how they vote on things that are important to Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.

My mother is on a health care and housing board and she also talks to me about how important those things are and education, so we read up on how the political people feel about those things. I enjoy lobbying them in person, like when the Arc counselors and self-advocates made visits to their offices to have the R word removed from Arc years ago. My favorite was the trip with Arc of New Jersey to ask Senator Booker to save our Lifeline, Medicaid.

It's important that we vote for people who want to help everyone to be all that they can be and have safe, healthy living for all. Voting encouraged me to become involved in my community and to volunteer with self-advocacy. VOTE and take someone with you."

-Yusef Quarles, Self-Advocate
