Found Wohlleben's mother tree "voice" hard to accept, and it's good to see the science tease out the truth. We absolutely need a more empathetic, "woke," assessment of the natural world and give it voice and legal rights, as well as properly value the intricate connections and services and the sacred aspects of these long evolved, life giving systems. But what we want it to be and what it really is, is nothing like the anthropomorphisms.

This is to be expected from increased tourism and associated and trickle down socioeconomic activity. Mitigation projects need to be refined to address the causal chain and more engagement with community as well as offset implemented. Madagascar tourism helps conserve primary forests, but others suffer: study suggests what to do

Madagascar’s protected area forests have 2.5km buffer zone forests surrounding them that also need urgent protection.

Climate change has consequences. Cacoa is endemic to the Yucatan, making the plant susceptible to pathogens and disease in another continent?

"What we've got here is failure to communicate". From Cool Hand Luke

When environmental reporting has to outlast the news cycle

In parts of Africa most affected by biodiversity loss and climate stress, the problem is not an absence of events worth reporting. It is the difficulty of translating slow-moving ecological change, fragmented governance and contested evidence into journalism that travels beyond borders. The signals....

There has been an effort globally by the forest products companies to push mechanical thinning in the wake of severe wildfires, aligning themselves with fossil fuel propaganda and ideologues in the conservative realm that are anti science, and anti conservation. There has been a need to increase carbon sequestration and efforts to reduce harvest to allow existing forest to absorb more carbon and as well grow out and resestablish older growth forests for biodiversity preservation, limiting the amount of wood throughout into forest products system.

Victoria’s mountain ash forests naturally thin their trees. So why do it with machines?

There’s a new plan to manage Victoria’s forests. But if it uses machines to ‘thin’ trees this could affect wildlife and increase bushfire risk.

Fast-growing trees are taking over the forests of the future and putting biodiversity and climate resilience under pressure

Climate change, deforestation, and habitat loss are promoting increasingly uniform forests, where fast-growing tree species displace native trees. This reduces biodiversity, makes trees less resilient to disease, and weakens forests’ ability to store CO₂.
