The Romans wore thick leather-soled sandals with straps around the ankles and nails in the soles to provide a stable, firm grip. Our military learned valuable lessons about the importance of shoes for soldiers during the Vietnam War. “Jungle Rot” became a matter of foot care and life or death. So, unique footwear for the brutal jungle environment became a priority. A similar thing happened with our soldiers in the deserts of the Middle East. So, another unique desert footwear was designed to prevent debilitating blisters, guard against extreme temperatures, and protect feet from dangerous wildlife. How much more important are the shoes of the soldiers of Christ who bring the most important message ever given to men. We, the soldiers of the cross, have the same message that was given to the Virgin Mary, the faithful shepherds, and to Jesus’ disciples. The shoes that we are to put on are the shoes of the Good News of peace, BUT we can’t tell others about the Peace of Christ unless we know the Peace of Christ ourselves. The Peace of Christ is you and I learning to rest in the finished work of Christ on the Cross that defeats sin and helps us stand firm against the storms of the enemy. The word that Paul uses means “to be made whole.” Peace is NOT the absence of problems, trials, chaos, frustration, storms, or trifflin’ people. Peace is the complete rest, calm, and confidence of salvation in the midst of these because of what Christ has done as the Risen Savior. How do I put on the Shoes of Peace and walk in Him as my Standard Operating Procedure?
I must recognize I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I must repent of my sin and allow the peace of Christ to change the way I think. I have to give my problems, anxieties, worries, and temptations to Christ through prayer with thanksgiving so that the peace of God can guard my mind and spirit. I must let His peace rule my life and walk in His peace. We have to change the way we live, talk, and act so that, as soldiers of the cross, we reflect the Good News of the Peace that Christ offers.
Take time today to thank Jesus for His peace that brings us complete salvation and rest.

Romans 6:13 reminds us that every day we have a choice about what we give ourselves to. Our words, thoughts, attitudes, and actions can either be used for our own desires or surrendered to God for His purposes. Paul isn’t just warning us against sin; he’s inviting us to live in the new life we’ve already been given through Christ. Because Jesus brought us from death to life, we no longer have to be controlled by old habits or struggles. Instead, we can offer every part of our lives to God and allow Him to use us for good. The way we respond to people, handle challenges, and make decisions becomes an opportunity to reflect His righteousness. God isn’t looking for part of our lives; He wants our whole hearts. When we place ourselves in His hands, He can use even ordinary moments for His glory. Every day we should ask ourselves, “How am I using my thoughts, speech, and actions today?” Are they serving sinful desires or honoring God?

Take time today to thank the LORD for giving us His righteousness so we could show others how to live right.

Everything that matters in life comes from your heart, your choices, your words, your relationships, even the person you're becoming, it all starts in the heart. In the Hebrew culture, the heart was seen as your deepest center, the place where moral decisions are made or ignored. In a world that constantly demands your attention, protecting what's inside you has never been more crucial. Think about what you let in. What fills your heart eventually comes out of your mouth, shaping how you treat others and yourself. Satan is sneaky, slow and methodical in his attack. You don't notice it all at once but over time the media feeds, the toxic conversations, the unchecked worry, they creep in slowly and before you realize it, they've changed how you think, feel, and interact with others. But you know what the beautiful part is? You get to decide what stays and goes. You get to choose what you meditate on. Fill your mind with what's true, honorable, just, and pure. Choose friendships that lift you up. Spend time in the word. Notice when the anxiety is creeping up and redirect your thoughts toward God's peace and what He's already done for you. Don't let the world make you something you're not, instead let God transform and renew how you think. This isn't about living a perfect struggle free life. It's about recognizing your heart is sacred and worth protecting. You're not alone, God will meet you right where you are, offering grace for every stumble. So today, guard your heart not out of fear, but out of love for yourself, for others, and for the life God has planned for you.

This verse, at least to me, reads very similarly to the world-renowned John 3:16, but it really puts into deeper perspective what the Lord Jesus did for us. “For our sake”, Paul says… That’s extremely powerful because I don’t think anybody can point to a singular person who is deserving of having all the wrongs they have committed in their life laid on One who “knew no sin”. As it is written, “None is righteous, no not one” (Rom 3:10, Ps 14:1-3). To think sin, not only for one person in this case, but for everybody from Adam to this day, was laid on Jesus so that we may become God’s righteousness by faith is unfathomable, but He has delivered that for us anyway according to His amazing grace! Let us not be deceived: God’s righteousness came at a price nobody can pay. As it is written, “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” (Isa 55:1). The Lord is only asking for you to come to Him. There is nothing we can give to God that is of any value except our hearts, which He created anyway for us to give back to Him. Jesus is truth, which can be bought, and once we do, the Scripture tells us to sell it not (Proverbs 23:23). So, knowing we have acquired the belt of truth and fastened it, let the breastplate of righteousness that God has given you guard your heart, which you have obtained by the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus and the finished work of Him taking on our sin for all who believe.

Take time today to thank Jesus for taking our sin and giving us His righteousness.

What a powerful Sunday at CGC!

This week, Pastor Mac reminded us of the importance of putting on the Breastplate of Righteousness.

When we stand in the righteousness of Christ, our hearts are protected, our identity is secure, and we can walk confidently in the calling God has placed on our lives.

We’re thankful for every person who joined us this week, and can’t wait to see what God continues to do in this season.

If you’re looking for a church home, we’d love to welcome you to Cypress Grove Church. Join us this Sunday, we will save you a seat! 💚

Let’s be honest, Isaiah ain’t wrong. Many people try to come across as never messing up, as perfect, and as the best thing since sliced bread. On our best days, we are filthy, stained rags in the light of a perfect, almighty God. If we even mess up one thing, we have messed up everything. If we sin, even in the smallest of areas, we have broken the whole law. And if that were the end of your story, there would be no hope. But thanks be to God that even though we are no greater than permanently stained rags, Jesus came and died so that we could be washed as white as snow. Because of what Christ did on the cross and in the resurrection, we can be made clean and given life. Christ has done all He can to cleanse us and provide us with His righteousness. But you and I must put on His righteousness by grace through faith. It is faith in His finished work and the repentance of our sin that takes us from being carried by the wind to standing firm. Repent and have faith in Christ, deny yourself, and follow Him in every aspect of your life.

Take time today to thank Jesus for cleansing us and giving us His righteousness.
