HISTORICAL PROGRAM: Saturday, March 21, 3pm @ Freedom Town Hall.
******************************************************************************

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country with the Freedom Public Library, the Freedom Historical Society, and the Effingham Historical Society who are partnering to present a special community screening and discussion of “The Spirit of Service”, a 30-minute excerpt from The American Revolution, the acclaimed documentary by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt. Made possible with support from PBS and WETA, “The Spirit of Service” explores the vital roles played by colonists during the American Revolution, highlighting acts of service beyond military participation.

After the video screening, a facilitated discussion with audience participation will be led by Freedom resident John Mackey, Chair of Social Sciences Division and Master Lecturer, College of General Studies, Boston University. Learn also about New Hampshire’s special connections to the American Revolution.

The program is free and will be held at the Freedom Town Hall, 16 Elm Street starting at 3 PM on Saturday March 21. Light refreshments and community conversation will follow. Throughout the year, the Freedom Historical Society will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States with special programs to ensure that New Hampshire’s rich heritage remains a vital part of our history.

February Program, "Tis the Season … Celebrating Winter Traditions"

For thousands of years people have celebrated winter to lift their spirits during the darkest, coldest, hardest time of the year. At the same time, they also adapted their traditional labor to the seasons and the weather. This program focuses on the many ways New Englanders balanced work and play over the years and includes such topics as sleigh rides, ice harvesting, snow rolling, winter logging, ice climbing, and snowshoeing. The program will consist of powerpoint slides and a small display of winter related tools and equipment for that “hands on experience.”

Please join us this coming Friday, February 20th, at 7pm at Effingham Historical Society.

Light refreshments will be served.

Hi, Everyone --

Did you know that Effingham Historical Society is working with the Effingham Elementary School Principal, Patti Morrisey, to help some families this Christmas season?

We are collecting gift cards to Hannaford, Ocean State Job Lot, Market Basket and Wal*Mart (non-alcohol & to***co) so that the parents or guardians can get what the child needs.

The drop off deadline for the cards is Friday, December 12th. If you are coming to our program this week on Friday evening, you could drop off your contribution then.

If you'd prefer to mail the cards to us, they may be sent to us at the address below.

With your help, we hope to fulfill the needs of some local families this season. Thank you for your generosity.

Linda Edwards & Betsy Desjardins are leading this effort on behalf of EHS and the children.
