ℹ️ Divulging information ℹ️

The word of the night at Collinsville Toastmasters was "divulge," and a lot of life lessons were shared in our speeches!

Our first speaker spoke about how to recognize the signs of a stroke. Weeks ago, he noticed a friend didn't seem well and suspected a stroke might be occurring. Thanks to his swift action and military training, he stepped in to help. His friend survived, and the long-term effects were far less severe. Sometimes heroes don't wear capes—they're just good friends.
🦸‍♀️❤️

Our second speaker reflected on growing up, sharing how he used to think his parents were being strict by limiting his allowance and curfew. Only later, as a young adult, did he realize they were actually preparing him for adulthood !
💰😀

😜 During Table Topics, we tackled a "strange" theme. Speakers were challenged to explain how they would react to unusual foods, odd situations, or bizarre moments in their lives.

Overall a lot of life lessons were learned and a lot of laughs and good vibes divulged all around .

"The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts."
— Marcus Aurelius

Our word of the evening was "torpor" (meaning slow or sluggish), but last night’s Collinsville Toastmasters meeting was anything but!

Here is a quick look at what went down:

Negotiating Life: Our first speaker broke down how negotiation isn't just for the boardroom—it happens in everyday life, whether we realize it or not. She walked us through the key stages of negotiation, from initial discussion to finding the Z.O.P.A. (Zone Of Possible Agreement), and finally closing the deal.

Mentor Morale: Our second speaker highlighted a classic Toastmasters theme: mentoring. She shared how effective mentors set the standard and uplift their protégés, proving that the mentorship journey helps the mentor grow just as much as the learner.

Genre Reenactment: Table Topics brought the laughs with a creative twist! Speakers had to improvise scenes on the spot based on assigned genres—mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, and western. We even had some interpretive dancing mixed in!
Sounds like a blast, doesn't it? Come join the fun at our next meeting!

We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.” — Anaïs Nin

🎤✨📢
Thursday evening’s Collinsville Toastmasters meeting was one for the dogs! 🐶 Our theme was the “Dog Days of Summer,” and our Word of the Day was “Sultry”—which felt pretty spot-on given the recent weather. ☀️
We had four fantastic speeches line up:

Speaker 1 shared insights on mentorship, emphasizing that it isn't a dependent relationship, but a guided one. Mentors are all around us—there might even be one in your life right now without you realizing it!

Speaker 2 talked about discovering your purpose in life and how inspiration can strike anywhere. (We also learned that peanuts are the “common person’s nut,” while cashews are reserved for “the elite”! 🥜)

Speaker 3 delivered a heartfelt story about overcoming struggles with self-worth and finding a better life through faith.

Speaker 4 posed a question: If you could take a single pill to cure all your ills, would you? That "pill" is actually exercise! Moving your body supports your health, mind, and overall purpose.

Overall, it was a fun, inspiring, and purposeful meeting during the dog days of summer!🐶🐕☀️

🙄& 😀 Before & After, ✅Checking a Box, 🥜Nuts

Last night's Collinsville Toastmasters meeting theme was “Domination,” and every one of our speakers dominated the art of public speaking!
Our first speaker spoke about her year as an Area Director on her path to becoming a Distinguished Toastmaster. While there were a lot of highs, there were a few lows, and at times it felt like she was “just checking a box,” but in the end, she realized it was more than that and appreciated the assistance and the journey.

The second speaker spoke about the “before and after” during life events. She discussed how we need to recognize the “before” times so we can appreciate and accept the “after” in those events.

The third speaker talked about “nuts” and how different types of nuts help our bodies. From our autoimmune systems to our brains, nuts can help you have a happier, healthier life. A well-placed pun about pecan pies in the speech was enjoyed by all! Interestingly, did you know that cashews aren’t actually nuts? They are the seeds of a cashew apple.

Finally, we had a retrospective Table Topics session where the question was, “Why did you come to Toastmasters?” If that’s a question you’ve asked yourself, we’d love to hear the answer from a potential member!
We meet every first, third, and fifth Thursday. Come by—you’ll be glad you did!
