enforcement results for April 2026

(Madison County, IL.) – The Madison County Sheriff's Office announced it issued 48 citations for distracted driving violations during April's Distracted Driving Awareness Month enforcement campaign.

"Distracted driving remains a serious problem in Madison County, and one moment of inattention can change lives forever," said Captain Matt Werner. "High-visibility enforcement is one way we remind drivers that safe driving requires their full attention. April may be over, but our message is not. The Madison County Sheriff's Office will continue enforcing distracted driving laws and urging motorists to put the phone away whenever they get behind the wheel."

The Illinois distracted driving campaign was funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Put the Phone Away: April Marks Distracted Driving Month

Edwardsville, IL – The Edwardsville Police Department announced it is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies to step up April enforcement efforts in recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

“Distracted driving endangers everyone, and we need the community’s support to keep our streets safe,” said Lt. Matt Senci. “While most people know texting while driving is illegal, the practice remains far too common. This April, we are partnering with IDOT to increase enforcement and remind motorists to put their phones away and drive distraction-free.”

In Illinois, handheld phone use while driving is both dangerous and illegal. Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

The Illinois distracted driving campaign is funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by IDOT.

Though your absence still feels deeply, we find strength in the memories we shared and the progress we've made in your honor. We're very pleased to see the turn lane construction underway on Troy-O'Fallon Rd and Country Lane. We hope this provides more safety for the residents traveling these paths each day.
