Our Story

The SIUE Meridian Society is a philanthropic organization that promotes leadership in women. It was established in 2003 as an auxiliary organization of the SIUE Foundation. The Society's name is based on the fact that the 90th Meridian runs through the SIUE Campus.

Meridian Society members’ annual membership and other gifts to the Society support the Meridian Society Award fund. Through this fund, annual awards of up to $5,000 are given to various community projects selected by the Meridian Society’s Awards Committee. Eligible grant applicants are SIUE units that have partnered with a community organization to carry out projects which benefit the St. Louis Metro East area. The annual application deadline is February 1.

The Meridian Society members meet twice annually but also host a large social event each year, the Meridian Derby, to network with women interested in philanthropy. In alternate years, the Society also holds a women’s philanthropy conference.
