B the Difference was founded to honor the memory of Brandon Merritt.

Our mission is to support individuals with NF and their families through our B Happy and B Kind programs.

Five days in Tampa. One family who had never taken a vacation together - until B Happy. 🌴✈️ 🦜Luke and Ben are brothers living with NF. This B Happy trip was their family’s first vacation ever and the boys’ first time on a plane and away from Pennsylvania. The family got to help plan their own stops, including various bird sanctuaries and zoos for rare bird sightings.

“It was amazing to have all FUN activities planned and a wonderful host to guide the whole trip. I loved every single experience! The trip was a fantastic opportunity for our family to bond, relax, laugh, and have fun. This trip was the first time during our family’s NF journey that I felt like I could breathe. The NF Summit isn’t just a conference; for many of our scholarship recipients, it’s the first room they’ve ever been in where no one asks them to explain what NF is.

For Ali, that meant hearing a doctor say what she’d needed to hear for a long time: that dating with NF isn’t different than dating without it. It meant staying up late with new friends instead of heading home early, because the scholarship covered her hotel room and made it possible to just be there.

This is why the B the Difference Summit Scholarship exists, so no one navigating NF, in any role, has to do it alone. 💙💚🩷

Meet just a few of the incredible people B Kind has had the honor of supporting recently. B Kind helped cover food assistance and medical bills for Rebecca. When Mia needed a place to stay during a clinical trial, B Kind got her a hotel. B Kind also helped Aarohi get a new high-performing computer for her upcoming engineering studies. 🩷💚

No two journeys look the same, and neither does the support we provide. That’s the heart of B Kind: meeting families exactly where they are.

A B Happy trip lasts five days… the memories last forever. Just ask Olivia. In 2017, her family traded the daily weight of NF for five days of adventure in Vail. “This trip meant getting to forget about NF for a week. It meant meeting new friends and spending time with my mom and dad. It was perfect!” - Olivia

That’s it. That’s the quote. A B Kind recipient shared this after receiving three months of grocery assistance, and it stopped us in our tracks. It’s easy to hear “grocery assistance” and think it’s minor. But for someone battling NF, while also managing medical bills, appointments, and the everyday cost of living, it can be the difference between surviving the month and actually breathing. Legitimately life-changing, in his words.

We’re so excited to announce a new partnership between B the Difference and Angel Flight Northeast ✈️💚 Together, we’re helping remove one more barrier for patients who need to get to critical medical appointments. Through Angel Flight NE’s network of volunteer pilots and ground transportation partners, patients can get the transportation they need to access specialized medical care. We’re honored to join Angel Flight NE in making that possible.

Reflecting on the Children's Tumor Foundation NF Summit it’s more clear than ever that our B the Difference Scholarship doesn’t just impact one person in a family… This year’s Scholarship assisted people of every age, every walk of life, and every stage of NF: an individual living with NF, a sibling, a parent, a caretaker, all in the same room.
