Dear Fellow Friends –

We wanted to provide you with an update on the Edwards River Park application. The first hearing on the revised application was on September 7, 2021. There was no time for public comment. Public comment will occur on September 28, 2021 after the 1041 application presentation. So, presume public comment will start about 4:00. Usually there is a hard stop at 7:00. Please sign up to speak – in person or remotely. This is the key hearing for the Commissioners to hear from the local public. We have prepared a proposed statement which is 5 minutes total which you can use either if you get someone to cede their time to you or you can pare it down to 3 minutes and hit the topics that you feel strongest about. It is attached. If you sign up, but would like to cede your minutes, you must sign up by 4:00pm on Monday the 27th, and follow the prescribed method to cede. Anyone who’d like to cede minutes, please let me know, as I can identify those who’d like extra time, and help facilitate this process.

Although the Edwards RiverPark team made what appeared to be strong arguments for the approval of the revised application, there are still too many holes, exclusions and half-truths to their arguments. This revision should not be approved as there are still too many issues that would be detrimental to Edwards and the Vail Valley residents, businesses and wildlife. Two of the county commissioners are on the fence and we NEED to sway them to reject this revision. PLEASE send your written opposition email to [email protected].

CALENDAR: There will be another BOCC hearing on Tuesday, 9/28 that will allow for public comment as well. We will update you with the Zoom link once it has been posted.

Here are some important opposition points:
1. Building Height - Buildings at 85, 68, 58 and 55 feet high (Note: Solaris Vail is 93 feet high)
2. Density - Still to much massing on the human scale which is incompatible with surrounding land uses;
3. More than 3,062 new car trips a day!
4. Workforce Housing all place dinto one huge high rise building - tenement like;
5. Still 90 Short Term Rentals - so the Hotel use was just pushed elsewhere. This transient atmosphere is not a community need in Edwards.
6. Negative Wildlife Impacts

SUBJECT: Edwards RiverPark Concerns
Dear Commissioner,

I am writing to you today to convey to you how strongly I oppose the revised RiverPark application. Although removal of the Hotel and Amphitheater was a step in the right direction, the issues with traffic, density, height and lack of public benefits still exist and have not really changed. There will still be more than 3,000 new car trips per day, the density mass/scale on the human level is not compatible with surrounding land uses and the "workforce" housing is all placed into one large tenement like building without integration into the community. It is poor planning. Further, the Short Term Rentals that were in the Hotel have now just been moved elsewhere without any reduction meaning the transient atmosphere remains. 90 Short Term Rental Units are the last thing our community needs. Please deny this revised application.
