Whether serving as U.S. History teacher, girls basketball coach, or high school principal, we remember Mr. Richardson for his kind smile and pleasant nature.

MCEF RECEIVES INAUGURAL DONATION

EDMONTON, Ky. (March 31, 2025) – The Metcalfe County Educational Foundation (MCEF) has received its first substantial honorarium donation.

Mark Branstetter (MCHS Class of '86) donated $1,500 in honor of his former coach, Tim McMurtrey. Branstetter was unable to attend the recent ceremony where the basketball court was named in Coach Mc’s honor.

“Even though I couldn’t be at the court dedication and reunion, I wanted in some way to show my appreciation to Coach Mc, who meant so much to me,” Branstetter said.

Coach McMurtrey, upon being informed of the donation, was humbled and expressed his sincere appreciation. “This is such a nice gesture on his part. Mark was a great kid. It's so kind of him to give back in this way.” McMurtrey said.

Branstetter went on to say that giving to the foundation not only allowed him to honor his former coach but also to give back to Metcalfe County, which has, and still, means so much to him. He added, “Metcalfe County is part of who I am. I will never forget the community and how it helped develop me into the person I am today.”

The donation will boost the foundation's inaugural fundraising effort, which is to sponsor at least two students for WKU’s gifted and talented summer camps. Branstetter challenged his teammates and all others who played under Coach Mc to participate as well. “There is no better way to show our appreciation to Coach than by giving back to today’s kids in his honor.”

Donations to the MCEF are tax-deductible. The Foundation accepts checks, PayPal, and Venmo.
