Despite the excited reaction and barking of many dogs in shelters upon the entrance of a new potential adopter, in every shelter there are also animals who seem to disappear into the background.
They may be frightened and stay at the back of their kennel. They may be older, injured, or simply too overwhelmed by the noise and confusion to show their true personality. They don't jump up to greet every visitor or press their face against the kennel door. They don't know how to make themselves noticed.
And often, that's why they wait. And wait.
But the quiet dog in the corner may be incredibly loving once he or she feels safe. The cat hiding under a blanket may become someone's devoted companion when given time and patience. And the older animal has lots of affection left to give.
Rescue isn't about finding the easiest animal to save. Finding your perfect match may depend on recognizing the value of the ones who are most easily overlooked.
At Guardians of Rescue, we believe every animal deserves someone willing to look a little closer, wait a little longer, and see the individual behind the fear, age, injury, or uncertainty.
Because often, the animal nobody notices is the one who needs you most.
