Today we gave a little extra care to Kaya, the beautiful welcoming figure that greets guests at the Edmonds Waterfront Center. Carved in 2023 by Tulalip artist Ty Juvinel from a western red cedar log estimated to be over 500 years old, Kaya’s Gift represents connection, heritage, gratitude, and community.

“Kaya’s Gift,” meaning “Grandmothers Gift” in the Lushootseed language, honors the matriarchs who guide and strengthen our communities across generations. With outstretched arms, Kaya welcomes all who visit our waterfront community.

Next time you visit the Edmonds Waterfront Center, take a moment to stop by Kaya and reflect on the stories, traditions, and welcome she represents. 💙
