Today was our last day, with our fabulous Japanese delegation!! We journeyed out to Snoqualmie Falls. It was truly beautiful with all the rain we have been having. We did the hike to the river, and had an even better view of the falls. We then went for a Teriyaki lunch. We were all famished! Next we went on a very interesting tour at Boehm’s chocolates. We got to see how they make their chocolates. All of them by hand!! Plus, we were given 6 different chocolate samples. 😊 Our last stop was Volunteer Park, for the beautiful view of Seattle! We had a truly amazing last day!!!

Our Japanese delegation enjoyed a great weekend with their host families. We took them to the Woodland Park Zoo yesterday! It was a fun day, with a lot of animals to see! We had delicious NW lunch at Kid Valley. Due to rain we took them on a drive through the University of Washington campus, then off to Green Lake. We rented 2 paddle boats, and we headed off to a rainy paddle! Luckily the rain stopped halfway through. We have one more day with our terrific delegation!

We had an enjoyable, wet day in Everett with our Hekinan student delegation!! We started the day at Boeing, then Mukilteo, then pizza at Major League Pizza in Everett. The students loved their pizza!🍕 We then walked to the Funko shop, and enjoyed looking at the side selection of POP figures. We journeyed on to the Schack Art Studio, and watched some glass blowing! The students wanted to go to Trader Joe’s, so that was our next stop. Our final stop was the Edmonds bakery, as the bus driver wanted to buy the kids a treat! It was a fun day for everyone! ❤️❤️

The Hekinan Sister City and Edmonds delegations had an Edmonds Kind of Day!! They started their day with a very fun felted art project. A former commissioner, Marlene, taught the students. Their projects turned out amazing! We then had a delicious Chinese lunch, at Furi’s. Then we began our scavenger hunt, as a way to explore downtown Edmonds. The students found many special places to visit and to shop. We all met at Molly Moons for some delicious ice cream.

The Hekinan delegation and Edmonds delegation enjoyed a great first day in Edmonds. They got to meet the Mayor of Edmonds and present him with a gift. They then went visit the Fire Station in Edmonds, and saw a lot of what our firefighters do. Next they went on a beach walk, and took the ferry to Kingston. The weather cooperated while they had their ice cream, and they headed back for an evening with their host families! It is such a joy to have the Hekinan students here!

Our last day in Hekinan was very special! As was our wonderful goodbye Thursday morning! We started out at the Thermal Energy plant, then off to another delicious lunch! Next we went to one Hekinan’s Art museums and then off to a flower arranging and calligraphy lesson. The flowers and calligraphy cards were for our host families, and the students and I made fans with calligraphy writing. After that the Hekinan volunteers threw us a goodbye party, with shaved ice and other goodies. 😊 It was really nice. When my host family picked me up, we went back to their house and we had dinner with another Japanese student and Edmonds student. The students made takoyaki-octopus balls, we had a sushi we made on our own-with fresh salmon, tuna, shrimp, egg, and cucumber.
The students got to light sparklers! They were a lot of fun. After the two students left, my host families relatives came to visit. They all gave me a very nice gift, and we finished with ice cream!
Our farewell in the morning was very special, and the students were very sad to go. It was another amazing trip to Japan. We look forward to to their students coming here in two weeks!

Tuesday we started off very early heading to Kyoto with both our Edmonds and Hekinan students! It always so much fun having them altogether! It is a long bus ride to Kyoto, but the students always have fun! Plus, we all enjoy the rest stops! We first visited Fushimi Inari Temple, with the 1000 Tori arches! It is an amazing place to visit, with many other great buildings to see! Next we headed for a delicious lunch, in a building that also had an embroidery museum. Where these big pictures are hand embroidered. They were stunning! Then it was off yo the very famous Kiyomizu Temple-a very famous temple in Japan! It was extremely hot here, as we started walking up to the temple. When you get to the temple the views are stunning! They were also a lot of people!! Tonight we were able to a have a free ever with our host families! ❤️

Monday morning started with a lot of excitement from the students! They all chatted excitedly about their weekends with their host families! Plus the Hekinan students were able to join us for our day to Nagoya! We first headed to see the Nagoya castle. It is so amazing how big they are, and all the other buildings that were around them-including the big castle gates!
Then we headed to Aeon Mall and Usu Mall for a day of shopping! The students were very excited! They had a lot of fun hanging out with each other. When we arrived back in Hekinan, the students and I went to karaoke for 3 hours! A very fun day! Lots of laughter and smiles ❤️

Today was our third wonderful day in Hekinan. It has been very hot and humid-mushi atsui!!!
Today we went to fish in the Yana river, in the farming area outside of Toyota city. It was hand fishing! They send fish through a pipe, through a spillway, then you have catch them very quickly. We all laughed at how slippery they were! Next they cooked them for us on a stick over a fire. They were a very delicious white fish-called Ayu.
We drove to Obara next, a friendship city with Hekinan. We had a traditional Japanese lunch, we tried many new foods. After we shopped in a clay artisan store. We then learned how to make Washi paper. It is an amazing process, and fun! The students really enjoyed the experience! Our last stop of the day was the Toyota Museum! The cars were a big hit! The students and I now get to enjoy a weekend with our host families.
I was treated royally to a very special welcome dinner with my host family, their sister and brother-in-law and grandparents! It was very generous, happy and oishi-delicious 🥰❤️
