✨ As National Arts in Education Week comes to a close, we’re celebrating what the arts make possible.

For more than 20 years, the Oklahoma A+ Schools Institute has been helping schools reimagine what learning can look like—putting creativity, connection, and the arts at the heart of education.

At OKA+, we believe the arts are not an “extra.” They are a powerful pathway to deeper learning, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and discovery.

Through professional development, hands-on experiences, research, collaboration, and a statewide network of educators, we help schools create learning environments where every student has the opportunity to engage, create, think critically, and thrive.

Our OKA+ Fellows—teachers, teaching artists, and educators from across disciplines—help bring that vision to life, sharing ideas and experiences that inspire educators to approach teaching in new ways.

🎨 Celebrating National Arts in Education Week!

Today, we’re highlighting the power of arts integration through our “Ledgers to Blueprints: Building ON the Basics” workshop.

Educators explored how art can connect history, culture, innovation, and STEM through hands-on learning. From designing and building stadiums to exploring physics, engineering, geography, and the history and traditions of Ledger Art, participants experienced how the arts can deepen student understanding and bring learning to life.

At Oklahoma A+, we believe the arts aren’t just an addition to learning—they’re a powerful way to make meaningful connections across subjects and perspectives. ✨

✨ The arts can transform the way we learn—and that’s something worth celebrating!

❤️ On day 3 of National Arts in Education week, we’re celebrating the power of arts education and the work happening every day at Oklahoma A+ Schools. And we believe educators should get to experience that power, too! Because when educators experience the arts, they’re better equipped to bring those same creative, meaningful experiences into their classrooms.

🎨 Our OKA+ Fellows continue to grow as artists and educators, building their skills and confidence across a variety of art forms. Through hands-on experiences and ongoing professional learning, fellows expand their artistic toolkit so they can better support schools and teachers in discovering meaningful ways to integrate the arts into their classrooms.

🧩 At OKA+, we know the arts are more than an “extra.” They help students think creatively, take risks, make connections, collaborate, communicate, and see learning in new ways. So here’s to the educators, artists, and students making learning more creative every day!

Continuing our celebration of National Arts in Education Week, we want to highlight an annual competition focused on performance arts.

Poetry Out Loud is a program where high school students are given an opportunity to learn and recite poetry, improve their public speaking skills and build confidence. Elisha Dalmeida, our 2025 Finalist from Jenks, OK speaks on how poetry has impacted her life.

In honor of National Arts in Education Week, OKA+ is celebrating Peace Academy in Tulsa and the creative professional development they held this August!

Teachers connected with their school community through art, exploring activities like using shapes to tell stories, creating dream catchers with math, and using emotions to inspire designs.

These creative ideas are now making their way into classrooms throughout the 2026–2027 school year!
